I'm not sure I understand it.

Why? As I said before, the point here was to show that Perry's claims are not true. He used a format and dollar amount designed based on that audience. If you were to challenge someone to a $10k bet over something, it would mean you were really sure that you were right and the other person was wrong.

What's strange is that half of the people criticizing Romney over this are doing so because he used too high a dollar value (because most people could not afford a $10k bet), and the other half are saying he used too low a dollar value ($10k not being much to him). I think that both groups are kinda missing the point. As I said, it's not about the value itself. It's a placeholder for saying "I'm positive I'm right, and I'm positive you know you're just spouting rhetoric".

I've not heard anyone claiming the dollar amount was too paltry. Only you trying to argue some silly argument.

It's a current zam meme bases on Alma's constantly referring to his post #206 in the DADT thread.

Maybe the loosest definition of the word "story."

It's got a beginning, a middle and a bell-end.

Arguably, if he had said "I betcha a million dollars..." he could wave it off as a turn of a phrase. In fact, Romney tried to make that argument himself (which begs the obvious: Why didn't you?). Instead, he said "ten thousand dollars" and stood there with a stupid grin waiting for Perry to accept. Only a tool would believe that he wasn't completely serious about making the wager.

The bits about "Ohhhh.. the pundits!" is funny because it's establishment Republicans who are trashing Romney for this and starting to peel off from him (not just over this). Romney was supposed to be the establishment candidate; the guy that the GOP machine could get behind and support. To cry about Fox News or Giuliani or Glen Beck or whoever giving Romney shit for this is to admit that his foundation of support is collapsing. It's not as though Romney has some big grassroots coalition going for him.

Sadly, that actually puts him ahead of "I'm not getting my news from anywhere" Gbaji.

Who's more greedy - Mitt or Newt?

What's Gingrich's response? He said this morning "if Governor Romney would like to give back all the money he's earned from bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years at Bain than I would be glad to then listen to him."

Right. He should totally give back the publishing companies the two million dollars in royalties he's gotten from book sales.
