Any number of reasons including, but not limited to: regulations, distribution, taxation, a general "I don't care about selling to an entire country with a population of only 1 state."

So what the hell is the point of free trade if I can't get kindles or hulu?

You'd better start asking for more copyright protection laws if you want those here. Of course, then you're going to have to give up other free things that you can currently get away with downloading.

I believe it's copyright laws that's kept hulu unavailable to us, I could be wrong on that though.

I am actually pretty sure it has to do with protecting licensees actually - comedy network doesn't want me watching south park on hulu because then they don't get the ad revenue.

Hulu pays a fee to license content from the providers. Otherwise no one would let their stuff be shown. Hulu makes it back up (plus profit) by selling ad space and subscription services.

We plan on getting one for the boys as a joint Santa gift. They keep trying to steal my Kindle.

Cheaper to buy them each Kindles?

I'm not finding that it does anything more special than my Nookcolor - except the 3g.

There's no 3g.

There's pretty much zero reason to buy one if you have a Nook Color. Nexa has a Nook Color, while the Fire has better objective specs, it's difficult to imagine what you would use them for at the moment, there really aren't any aps that demand much from the hardware, even running Honeycomb from ramdisk using an SD card.

If you can see yourself using Prime and all that, sell the NC and buy one, but having two would make no sense.

As opposed to killing them and buying new kids? Almost certainly.

Amen to that!

Although I do already have a kindle, and apparently the fire isn't as good as a regular kindle for reading, I might still get this fire pad, if it were available outside the US.

It's odd, I can get a regular kindle from the US (correction: I must buy it from the US, for some reason the country that is only about 60 miles away, ie the UK, member of the EU, for as long as that will last, doesn't ship to Belgium) but not a fire. It'll come I suppose, I guess it's for some copyright reason, or similar nonsense.

The 7 inch screen just seems a bit too small for comfort, I've read reviews stating that for magazines and such, it's just not big enough. I guess I'll wait for the 9 inch screen, if they ever ship it overseas.

Yeah, about the 3G thing, the info I had on the Fire was from a podcast a few months old, when it was still in speculation stage. I gotta get caught up.

That's why they're getting their own Kindle to share. We figured it was cheaper to buy them one than for three funeral expenses and a good defense lawyer
