Noah is going to stay with a friend for the weekend, so it'll just be the husband and me, lying around the house enjoying the quiet. No Skyrim for me because I just can't get into single player games much anymore. Not sure why.

It actually would run quite well. The only weak point in your sytem really was the video card if I remember right, and its really not a bad card. Sure you might not get super high framerates, but it will definitly run decently.

As for my weekend plans, technically my weekend was supposed to start yesterday, since I'm on that schedule where I get every other Friday off. But yesterday I went and picked up some servers for the server room at other work instead. We got Two HP Dl585 Gen 3 quad processor servers with 16GB ram apiece and SAS drives for $150 each. Thats basically equivelent to a HP DL380 Gen 6 in terms of when they were made, so about 1 model revision behind state of the art. Some other state agency decided to surplus them for some odd reason, so we got first crack at them. So that was fun. New toys and all...

Friday, i'm going to go get some more metal for the X axis bearing rail guard project on the CNC mill. Its coming along nicely. I also will be finishing the Z axis side plates on the sheet metal brake. I might go stalk that B-1 bomber that is being drivin up to Boeing field today too, depending on how far it made it yesterday.

Saturday, Some model painting. I've been working on an S-4 Wyvvern odel for ages now, and its to the point where I need to spray the insides of several components before I can proceed any further. I've also been told there is a new book store in the area i've never been to, so that will have to be looked into. Then maybe i'll go see a movie or something.

No plans sunday as of yet.

GeForce 9800+ GTX (or GTX+ or something... all those characters are in there in some order).

Now and then I look at the Tom's Hardware hierarchy but the recommendation there is to go up three tiers to make an upgrade worth it and I'm not about to drop $300 on a new card.

yeah, the GTX+'s are nice cards. A Geforce 560Ti GTX would be about the cheapest true upgrade you can find easily. A 280 or 285 GTX would also be an upgrade, but they are getting rare. I can't remember which motherboard you ended up with, but you might be able to add a second card if you have a beefy enough power supply and essentially double your video horsepower.

GeForce GTX 460 2,367 149.99*

That's what I ended up with.

I'm running a GTS450, IIRC, and Skyrim plays fine on High settings.

Yeah, a 460 GTX and a 450 GTS are both decent cards. The 9800 GTX+ was just a really fast card for its era. Basically the newer cards have some processor instruction sets and additional ram that it didn't have, but aside from that the 9800 GTX+ is actually faster than the 450 GTS by quite a bit, and about the same speed as the 460 GTX. the 460 GTX has the FERMI engine (which was the upgrade to CUDA) so certain games will run faster on the 460 than the GTX, but the 460 GTX actually has a slower processor than the 260 GTX if you eliminate the FERMI engine capability. Not all games can take advantage of FERMI, so its a worthwhile distinction in my book. The 560 was the first card that is much faster in all respects. Of course a 580 or a 590 blow a 560 out of the water, so if you can get one of those, then you are set. Theres also the DirctX 11 issue, the 9800 GTX+ won't render DirectX 11 commands, but all directX 11 games ship with the directX 10 and 9 cores for that very reason.

I was convinced to be interested enough to look at it.

And became disinterested after seeing the $60 price tag. I'll wait on it a bit.

Funnily enough, my housemate has called his character "Yeodenheim".

I called mine Eddard because <3 SoIaF.

I've been getting my lunches from some country store. On Fridays, they grill out. A piece of steak the size of my hand on a bun with a bag of chips, drink and dessert is $6. Score!

I meant to mention this in one of the other threads where food was being discussed, but due to some really strange quirk, the Shell gas station just down the hill from my place has a fully outfitted kitchen and is operated by some old school Greeks. A gyro and salad lunch deal is like $5-something and is freaking amazing. Yeah. At a Shell station. Go figure!

This weekend is like the first weekend where I'm not helping someone move, or celebrating some family members birthday party, or wedding anniversary, or god knows what else. I plan on slacking on Saturday. I've been goofing off with COH again lately, so I'll probably tool around on that for awhile. I have to remember the specifics of how my controller kills elite bosses again, since Giovanni-whats-her-name-chick kicked me pretty soundly to the curb. Probably not the best idea to log in after not playing for like a year and a half, see that you have a mission to defeat the final boss in a storyarc all ready to go, and figure "what the heck?". I vaguely recall when I did the praetorian series that it involves lots of purples, hurricane, tornado, maybe snowstorm?, and patience. And more purples. And maybe some yellows? Tricksy stuff.

On a side note, I'd forgotten how much my MA/SR scrapper was basically like playing with an easy button. Smiley: smile

I don't know that I'd trust any gyro coming out of San Diego but I ain't there to try it so I'll reserve judgment.

I have a positional capped KM/SR scrapper who is ridiculously easy to play. Been a while since I've logged into CoH for any length of time due to the other stuff I've been playing. I should manipulate my character slots before my account expires and I'm under F2P restrictions.

Apperently I forgot the part about "Go to Costco to pick up some pommegranites and get rear ended by a ginormous cart filled overflowing to capacity with cans of beans being pushed at high speed by a 10 year old not paying the slightest bit of attention to where she was going. Not that it would have mattered if she had given the cart outmassed her by a factor of 20 give or take. Damned thing hit right where my right leg attaches to my hip socket from the rear, when I was at a complete standstil and not expecting it at all. It's the first time I've ever been knocked down in a store, thats for certain. nothing is torn or broken, but it is bruised to hell and back, and the muscle is NOT happy. I didn't even get an appology from the kid or the elderly presumable grandparent that was supposedly minding her. So, my plans now consist of "sitting on this ice pack until it is time for another one"

THE city?

I really need to visit NYC sometimes. I've only passed through a couple times and gone to JFK Airport. I'd love to spend a couple days just at the Met.

I started christmas stuff. Can you believe that?

I baked and froze a couple batches of whoopie pies that will go out to all my nieces and nephews scattered across the midwest. Next up is caramels and toffee.

Skyrim has top billing on my x-mas list.

When you factor in all the money he saves by growing his own okra, he's probably doing alright, to be fair.
