There was a huge magnolia at the entrance to Opryland back when it was still a theme park. When I would work the front gate gift shop, I bet I got asked 5 times a day if the tree was real and if we polished the leaves. Tourists...

I also got to watch the tour buses unload people going to the Opry. And every busload had at least 2 couples dressed like Minnie Pearl and Porter Waggoner. It was funny to watch them looking around and seeing that no one else was dressed like them.

A correction here. My father listened to Rush Limbaugh and Neil Boortz and a local guy in Augusta (who was actually a lot saner then both of them) pretty much exclusively in the car. So I grew up for 18 years listening to right-wing talk radio. (Daddy was a Republican, and that side of the family is actually one of the RNC power families, which is one reason I no longer talk to them.)

When I stopped listening to them when I came to college, it was because I realized they had nothing of value to add to the conversation.

I listen to Limbaugh when I'm in the car over lunch; it lets me know what yours and Gbaji's talking points will be for the day. Afternoon drive time, I sometimes listen to Michael Medved who actually seems sane most of the time even as I disagree with him on almost everything. Mornings, I listen to a couple local conservative AM voices: either Big John & Amy on 560 who are on the saner end of the spectrum or Don & Roma on 890 who are usually just retarded and predictable. They also try too hard. Now that I think about it, Limbaugh's on 890 and Medved's on 560 so there's possibly a trend there. Then again, I think 560 has Glenn Beck in the mornings after I'm already in the office.

Or I just listen to music.

Nadenu,

Love that tree. I have one a little bigger than that in my front yard.

I just looked at the "Media Research Center" website.

They're long on complaining about Clinton and extremely short on methodology regarding how they arrived at their numbers. I suppose making claims about "networks" is safer than making claims about print media where people could more easily run a Lexis-Nexus search and confirm their numbers.

Anyway, you never answered the question. Should there have been more coverage on Clinton or less on Cain?

Edit: The whole "named" thing is ridiculous as well. Both Cain and the NRA admit that there were settlements paid to two women based on harassment suits. You don't need to even know their names to know that two women brought sexual harassment suits against Cain and were paid to drop it.

These days I usually keep the public radio station on, because if I don't listen to that I'll fail the "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" quiz on Saturday. Smiley: frown BBC World News today was about Muslim women in China; quite fascinating.

I'm going to be in nashville next week, anything I should do?

Go see The Opryland Hotel. I can't remember exactly when they start decorating for Christmas, but it might be as soon as next week. Even if it's not decorated, it's a hell of a hotel. And right next to it is Opry Mills, a really nice mall.

Downtown, be sure to hit 2nd and 3rd Avenues. That's where all the country/tourist-y stuff is, with quite a bit of local things as well. The Ryman Auditorium is in that area too, 5th Avenue. All of this stuff is right off Broadway, so you'll be able to find it. And on Broadway, there's Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. It's purple, tiny and tacky, and it's kind of a big deal.

Also right off Broadway is the Arena, there's always something going on there. You could catch some hockey from a bad southern team, yay! And at the end of Broadway closest to the Cumberland River, you should be able to see the Titan's stadium. And while you're standing there on the river, hop on the General Jackson and have dinner and a movie. I've only been on it once, but it's a really nice riverboat.

The Bluebird Cafe is another spot a lot of people stop at. It's not downtown, but you should be able to find a map to it. It's on Hillboro Road, which is kind of a pain in the *** road, but all cities have those.

That should keep you busy for a day or two. Smiley: grin

Another NPR fan, eh? I listen to it most of the time; I just don't like Joe Donoghue the local morning host.

505 North Lake Shore Drive, huh?

So they both live in this 70 story, 876 unit building?

I suppose "same building" sounds more damning when you live in the sticks.
