Greek Bailouts are going to get voted on now I suppose. If I was among those who spent the last couple of weeks trying hammer out a deal I'd be storming around my office rather upset with life. I'm all for democracy and stuff, but I'm left wondering if this was really the best of ideas given the circumstances.

What are your thoughts?
Just a political ploy by a politician to try and keep power.:2 (11.8%)
EU's own fault for ignoring the warning signs about Greece when they let them join the Euro.:10 (58.8%)
Not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.:2 (11.8%)
Something else entirely.:3 (17.6%)
Total:17

I've long been of the opinion that the EU monetary union is kind of nice for tourists, but directly subjecting your currency to the fiscal policy choices of other sovereign countries is just folly, and the situation in Greece (and Spain, Portugal, Italy, and to a lesser extent Ireland) is a perfect example of why.

Which sucks, because the entire world will feel the repercussions when (not if) Greece defaults.

I suspect the EU (or economic zone or whatever technical term this falls under) is a bit like NATO: Spread out a little too fast and accepted some less than qualifying people because more people = more immediate clout.

Personally, I think the idea to bring the question to referendum is kind of savvy. It forces the Greek people to really decide if they want to be in the EU or not. If they do, then they have to quit ******** about, and even support, the bail-out and subsequent austerity measures.
