Too much information?Follow

#1 Oct 17 2011 at 6:53 PM Rating: Sub-Default
If Egypt having problems, If Japan is under water, if Haiti is under stupid government, if the Bieber has a new gig, do we need Facebook to keep in touch with peoples who could have call us long time ago?

You have a family to take cares and friends who needs you. What have you done for your community lately?

Television, computers and cellular did they make our life better or it's just another expense? I remember has a child having none of the above and being happy.

Does it change my daily life to have all this information or it's another corporate brainwash to cash in?

I pad, I phone, do we really need it?

F.uk the world and I don't care about global warming!

Is this where someone calls you stupid for wanting less information and then you disagree absolutely and it goes back and forth with you believing you're the puppetmaster?

eh, don't like facebook, don't use it. Ditto with all other social media. You have a choice (unless you have to use it for work, although I somehow doubt anyone would pay you to represent their org... and even then you could choose to pursue a non-communications job)

Anyway, I don't see any problem with a profusion of information, though it would be nice to be able to filter it more intellegently at times.

I wish less of the information was total crap, but, some of the oldest examples of writing and numeracy we have are actually ancient reciepts - so... boring and or ephemeral info has been with us as long as we've been transmitting info

Less than a week ago. Why, were they giving out prizes? I want a prize!

Edit: They have "Lap-sit" on weekends where you bring in your baby/toddler and they do songs and read stories. Afterward, we take some time to look around and check out any books we want for the week. We're crazy-insane party people like that.

I didn't get a prize though.

Both next door neighbors, the people across the street and the people whose backyard abuts mine. It probably helps that we have kids or grandchildren who play together.

What do you consider "involved"?

Are you seriously so worried about me? Maybe you should be out getting "involved" right now or something.

The thought of someone coming into the Asylum to lecture Joph makes me giggle.

There's an easy way to avoid info overload. Cancel your cable subscription. There, no more talking heads. (Unless you deliberately seek them out on the internet.)

Eh, I own a bunch of books I haven't finished reading yet (yey yearly used book sale with 1-2 dollar books) and my work library has one of the most interesting collections in the province (and no late fees)

Currently reading

-Voltaire's Bastards by John Ralston Saul
-The Roots of English by Robert Claiborne
-The Dictionary of Word Roots and Combining Forms by Donald Borror

The most recent book I finished is Margaret Atwood's Journals of Suzanna Moodie
Before that was Numbers in the Dark by Italo Calvino

I think I am doing okay in the book reading dept.

What's most important; politician sex life or the local farmer with a back problems and a pregnant wife who needs help at the farm? We used to care about our local peoples, now do you know them?

My neighborhood has exactly 8 houses. We are quite good friends with the lady across the street, who is the only person who has been here longer than we have now. The lady kitty corner across the street, Eleanor, wrote her memoirs but when her husband passed away last year she moved to Patagonia. The lady and her son next door on one side are good friends, because they moved in at the same time we did. Her ex-husband is a deadbeat dad, and a court ordered garnishing of 20K of his cash allowed her to get a down payment on the house. The lady and her daughter on the other side are enemies, because her other daughter's husband is the head of the traffic division for the entire city, and he has freaking cop cars patrol the neighborhood (we invested in blackout curtains due to this.) She has hip problems, and is expecting her first grandchild in about three months.

I know my neighbors.

Which affects more people? An unethical, morally bankrupt state governor who alienates several million voters, leaves office in disgrace, hands power over to an incompetent deputy and necessitates a new election; or some guy who may need to hire some kid part time to get a few bushels of corn to the weekly market?

Do we really need spear throwers? I remember in my day we used to throw spears directly, and now you lazy kids have this newfangled technology just so you can throw your spears a little farther, a little faster, and of course with less effort. Is this modern convenience really going to make you any happier in life?

You didn't have to make it about race, dude. Leave the spear-chuckers out of it.

Jesus christ, they still offer remedial English in person

Also, I do not give a flying fuck about my neighbors. Thanks to cellular communication, I can plan to spend time around people who I actually like. As for the local library: I hate reading paper books, but that doesn't matter because the library will lend eBooks to my Kindle.

My next door neighbor is my landlady, and she is one of the nicest people I know. The guy across the street is a **** who called the cops when the neighbor's dog peed in his lawn, which is ridiculous, since he rents and isn't even responsible for care of the lawn. He's also get a Ron Paul sticker on his car.

If this getting to know your neighbors business is about 50/50, I'll stay minimally 'involved.'
