You people talk about being bi-partisan and want all this "cooperation" among politicians but when it comes to actually treating citizens of a paricular opposing ideology equally then you really couldn't care less how they're treated.

This would make more sense if I ever asked for the Tea Party folks to be tear-gassed and beaten with clubs or whatever.

You've asked for Occupiers to be tear-gassed and beaten with clubs? When did that happen?

Funny, I don't recall hearing about police tear-gassing Tea Party members, or firing canisters into their skulls at point-blank range...

I'm conflicted on whether or not I should support them or taunt them as I drive by in my Dodge Stratus. I mean, I have a job and all, but I'm driving a Stratus. It can go either way.

I never heard the term business jet before. Smiley: confused Or it's been so long since the transition to corporate jet I don't remember when it happened. Certainly long before the Obama administration.

you know what pisses me off about this. Retarded canadians who are occupying <insert a park near you>. They have been passing around the Occupy fact sheet on face book and twitter. The most annoying part of this is that the main concerns of the occupiers are.

Rich people are not being proportionally taxed.
- works for the US, but here in canada our rich get taxxed out the ***, imo more than they should be.

Banks being supported with tax money
- In canada we didn't have to shell out money to banks, the biggest handout we gave was to GM, and it has since been paid back in full + interest

Housing values falling
- In canada values on homes are increasing

Wage freeze/decine
- in canada our wages have been going up, minimum wage actually rose over a dollar during the economic down turn.

Massive Debt/deficit
- Canada is close to having a balanced budget, and if the economic predictions hold next fiscal year we should end up in a surplus.

I ******* hate stupid people, I support the ideas behind the Americans Occupy movement, but retards in my own country have no idea what they are arguing for or against, nothing they have in their "doctrine" has anything to do with this country.

Canadian rich people have the same "tax loophole" as the rich in the US-capital gains. To mess with it much would probably be economic ruin though.

My knowledge of Canadian economics is pretty much limited to exchange rates between the US and Canadian dollar.

Getting rid of loopholes will ruin the economy? Please explain this.

It's lower tax rates on investments, which need to be lower since they can swing up and down. The part that could be tweaked is the income flow portion of it, counting those non-reinvented funds as income, or forcing some sort of pseudo holding corp build where to withdraw from investments over a certain level, you'd need to account for it as a payment from that holding corp, making it income. Exempt some first chunk of it and you limit the overhead for lower tier investors.

I think an exemption on the first large chunk of profits from taxes isn't a bad idea. I'd say, the first 50K of capital gains could be gratis, tax free, or at least taxed at a fairly low rate. That way, the folks who are retired and using their interest bearing investments to live off won't be impacted all that much. It's the folks that make a 500K a year or more off their investments who really ought to be paying a significantly larger percentage of it in taxes. Past a certain point, you don't need more money to survive in this country; you're just getting more profit for profit's sake. All good and well, you made fantastic investment choices, but if you're not reinvesting those profits, you need to get pinged for higher taxes, period.

I'd be quite fine with them paying tax at a lower rate than top-bracket income taxes, but it should be higher than the current cap gains rate. So they still have an advantage for investment, but it isn't quite as large. ( 35% is also quite a low top bracket, that is another number that should be adjusted. The income bracket is also quite low comparatively, IE there should be new higher % but also higher minimum qualifying income levels for those higher brackets. )
