So they park a couple of their frigates over here near the east coast, I figure we park the atlantic carrier battle group on top of them and see what happens. When the lifeboats on the larger navy are bigger than your warships, perhaps you don't want to try to annoy them...

http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/27/world/meast/iran-navy/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

(CNN) -- Iran plans to send shipsrowboats near the Atlantic coast of the United States, state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported Tuesday, quoting a commander.

"The Navy of the Iranian Army will have a powerful presence near the United States borders, And by powerful, we mean it will smell really, really bad." read the headline of the story, in Farsi.

"Commander of the Navy of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran broke the news about the plans for the presence of this force in the Atlantic Ocean and said that the same way that the world arrogant power is present near our marine borders, we, with the help of our sailors who follow the concept of the supreme jurisprudence, shall also establish a powerful presence near the marine borders of the United States," the story said. The reference to the "world arrogant power" was presumably intended to refer to the United States.

IRNA cited the force's website as saying that the announcement was made by Adm. Habibollah Sayari on the 31st anniversary of the Iran-Iraq war. It was followed by hilarious laughter until everyone realized he was actually serious. That was followed by one of those aqward silences that usually happens immidiatly after someone has to explain to their friend who blacked out that they drunk called all their ex-girlfriends during the previous nights binge drinking session.

State-run Press TV said Sayari had announced similar plans in July. In February, two Iranian Navy ships traversed the Suez Canal in the first such voyages by Iranian ships since 1979.

U.S. Defense Department officials had no immediate reaction to Tuesday's announcement. The United States has deployed fleets to the Persian Gulf in the past.

State-run Press TV, citing IRNA, said Tuesday's announcement came as Iran also plans to send its 16th fleet of warships to the Gulf of Aden to protect Iranian vessels and oil tankers from pirates, who have hijacked dozens of ships and exchanged their crews for ransom.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that Tehran's defense doctrine is based only on deterrence, Press TV reported in a story in July about the deployment of submarines to international waters. U.S. officials reportedly strongly agreed with the part of the statement regarding no threat to other countries, and is planning on lettingn the coastguard have the first shot at any invading iranian navy, for the Irany factor of it all.

A brief look shows that the Iranian navy has three destroyers and three frigates (and assorted coastal style boats not suitable for an extended blue water deployment). Oh, well, if they think they can spare them... *shrug*

Edit: They have a handful of submarines as well but I doubt you use subs as your Rooseveltian "big stick" when trying to make a scene. Sort of defeats the point of the subs.

You would think that but Iran also has a separate "Navy of the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution" which I would assume has a Commander.

Commander of the Navy of the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution must make for one hell of a business card.

I think we should let Canadia handle this one.

Just imagine that I managed to successfully post one of those amusing "Canadian Navy" pictures featuring a man sitting in a floating bathtub with a minigun.

Can't we just send the rednecks with their bass boats out to deal with them. Sure they might need a comander so we can put lolgaxe in charge, even give him a long *** title some thing like "Comander of the hillbilly base boat WWE federation of the USA". Their flag could have a fist holding a beer can on it to.
