The loss of life at the Macondo site on April 20, 2010, and the subsequent
pollution of the Gulf of Mexico through the summer of 2010 were the result of
poor risk management, last‐minute changes to plans, failure to observe and
respond to critical indicators, inadequate well control response, and insufficient
emergency bridge response training by companies and individuals responsible
for drilling at the Macondo well and for the operation of the Deepwater Horizon.

Linky

From what I can gather they're saying everyone screwed up but BP bears ultimate responsibility; which really isn't a big surprise I suppose. Should be good ammo for all the lawsuits flying around.

Sometimes things aren't what they look like on the surface. And then sometimes they are. They had to go through the process.

I'm really sorry this happened to all the residents and wildlife of the Gulf. Mineral Oil molecules have benzine rings in them, just like oestrogen molecules. So a lot of mineral oil molecules (which are fat soluble and small enough to be absorbed through the skin) fit into oestrogen receptors in the body. But since the mineral oil molecules aren't EXACTLY the same shape as the body's natural oestrogens, they cause problems like infertility, breast and prostate cancer, hormonal emotional and behavioural problems, and inter-sex babies.

Since animal, fish, reptile, bird, amphibian and human hormonal systems are essentially the same, all species suffer the same negative hormonal illnesses from crude Oil pollution.

At least they're only ten months behind now. Usually its several years.

I assume you don't think we should stop all drilling, right?

I think we should rape and pillage and when there's nothing left, move to another rock.

We need somewhere to dump our garbage. I say we fill up all the holes with it.

Sad thing is, the company will probably pay such a pittance for effectively annihilating an ecosystem that they will have no incentive to not continue business as usual.

There's too much truth in this. Realistically, all the new standards put in place by the Bush Administration that essentially allow them to bypass all environmental safety laws and inspections pretty much keeps them in the clear. No reason to change their act.
