Eh, I'm ok with it. I just wish they hadn't burned my plantation though. 
I'd say the last twenty~ish years of politics has been the bigger mistake. At least the Civil War led to something overall productive.

Well, northern modern Mexico. We did annex what was northern Mexico at the time.
