It's supposed to completely miss us and sail west of us and drown Quebec (Thank you God). We'll see if that actually happens though.

Golfing on Saturday, then spending Sunday organizing my move the following weekend.

There will probably be some beer involved at some point in all that.

That reminds me...I should stock up on beer. I don't have the motivation to go out and hoard supplies like many are doing, but damned if I'll go through this whole weekend pinned indoors without beer.

Irene stuff is really ramping up. It's crazy when you look for flooding/wind/rain projections for your area and all that weather.com says is "SHIT'S GOING DOWN."

Congratulations. Looks like I'll be spending the weekend indoors as well. Which, is fine with me.

Nothing yet. I'm leaving it up to her, and she's still sorting out her opinions on wedding plans. It'll likely be something real small, probably within a 1-2 year window.

I live in a beach town. If the eye doesn't pass over us, we'll still likely be seeing some of the worst of it. Work was cancelled, because of a mandatory evacuation, so I'm off anyway. Too bad I'm not at school--that's where my PS3 is. D:

We're in Michigan right now, spending the weekend at the lake (as in 'The' lake) and doing standard "my parents took me on a vacation to some small town" things. Right now it's fairly cool out so I'm sitting by the indoor pool while the older child gets his swim on.

I find it ridiculous that something named Irene is a thing to be feared. We really need to rethink how these things get named. As to the weekend, I have blissfully empty calendar. I think I'll spend a good portion of it sleeping.

You heard about Hurricane Dora right? I couldnt stop giggling every time it was on the news. Oh the fun I could have had with THAT one!

See, here's the problem.

Jonwin is working today until the weather gets so bad they need to shut down, but they closed the ship Sunday, so we can sit though the storm together. We expect some flooding in our basement, so Jonwin sweep the floor and clean up the cat litter box.

Today we are filling up bathtubs and putting aside bottle water in case we need to camp a few days with power out. As long as Irene doesn't decide to make a left at the Bay we should be only getting tropical storm strength winds, but better safe then sorry.

Today is opening day at the Maryland Renaissance Faire and I would be there getting soaked, if I wasn't so broke this month. My 2 oldest are again working at the Faire and not happy that the weather will be keeping attendance down, as they get pay by commission. Jonwin has next weekend off, so we see about going then.

Forecast just changed--the most likely path the hurricane takes has it crossing literally over my town. And it is no longer predicted to downgrade to a tropical storm until Maine.

So, yeah. My brother just got here, having evacuated his apartment on one of the barrier islands. We are safe from the storm surges here, though, since we're pretty high up. If we have flooding issues, then this whole area is seriously f*cked.

You know the London Eye? Well, they built a smaller version of it in MelBourne as the showcase of the redeveloped Docklands... but they only engineered it to a heat tolerance of something like 41 C, (105.8 F). The year it went up, it buckled and cracked on the day it hit 42C (107.6F). The building company had to take it all back down again at their own cost... as the temperatures in Melb hit a record high of 50C (122F) for a week. God that Summer was bad.

There is a nasty rainstorm that is pulling this hurricane with it and helping keep it intense, I heard from my mother.

On the other hand, I also told my mom that I needed batteries for my flashlight so that I could see my computer keyboard if the lights went out and she thought that was reasonable.

Not much going on around here. The new 256GB Crucial 6GB/sec SSD for the main computer is stuck in the ridgefield post office less than a mile from my house until monday. It was supposed to be here thursday, so not entirely happy about that. When it gets here, the main computer is getting an upgrade. That, a pair of 2TB data drives in Raid 1, A new blueray burner, a card reader to replace the ancient floppy drive, 4 Noctua super quiet 120mm fans to replace the semi quiet vantec stealths on the radiator and front and rear intakes, and some new water cooling quick disconnects for the water cooling kit. Should be a bit of a speed improvement over the 15,000 RPM SaS drive raid 0 array I have in there now. That array will be going into the secondary computer, to replace the 10,000 RPM Raptor array that just had its first failure due to age (nothing was lost, adequate backups are a wonderful thing!)

So, in the mean time, I might work on mill assembly instead.

We have a 24 pack, 5 bottles of wine (plus whatever we had in the cabinet) and a lot of hard alcohol.

The storm itself does, but it's extraordinarily rare for them to actually reach that far and still have hurricane force winds. Generally, those are tropical storms. On rare occasions, they'll downgrade as they move north and then hit a warm patch that gives them more fuel, and the winds will increase again.

Plus, any hurricanes that do make it this far generally stay out at sea. It's extremely rare for one to make land this far north. NJ hasn't been hit by one for many, many years.
