Floyd was '99, that's the biggest thing I remember.

Up here the yard, which I've been working on re-seeding all summer is completely flooded, so there goes that project. As of 11:30am it's still pouring rain. Haven't seen any damage yet, though. The power flickered for a few seconds about an hour ago but that's all.

This was the first hurricane to hit NJ since one way back in 1903.

Jonwin and I won't be online for awhile, as we wait for the power to be turned back on. My daughters came to get me out of the house where I was going nuts not able to do anything about the downed trees in our backyard. Right now I'm eating fries at McDonald's and using my daughters laptop.

We may be able to get trees cut and cleared from yard tomorrow, but not sure when power will get restored.

At least tonight we will not have to listen to the wind and rain beating on the window a/c.

I went swimming in the Lower East Side today. That was kind of fun.

The LOWER east side? I would have gone with "filthy" over "fun".

My office is closed tomorrow. Three day weekend! Our area isn't horribly flooded, so looks like we'll be able to get out and see a movie or something at least.

Upper East might not be too bad. :P And the lower west would just have rainbow waters.

I got stranded at my Hotel in downtown Boston from Saturday night until I left this morning due to the T being closed. Granted, I was only working for 22 of the 32 hours I was there (They let me sleep awhile!), but being at work for a day & a half away from the fiance whom spent the hurricane on the Cape sucked Gbaji-balls.

However, when I got off work around 11:30am, during the height of the storm, I ventured out for lunch. It was pretty wild out there, especially in the "wind tunnel" by the Hancock Tower. See, it's always windy there. Like, clear skies & a slight breeze until you walk around a corner & get hit with 35mph winds windy. Yesterday, those wind gusts were topping 70mph, so of course scooterdude was out there being his crazy self.

Since I was the bartender at Rattlesnake's first hurricane buddy, I gots a free beer. After a yummy prime rib po' boy (with au jos) & a couple of stella's, I braved the wind again (most of the rain came before the wind), went back to the hotel & tried to sleep before going back to work again for the overnight.

I was only about half successful with the sleeping, unfortunately.

My yard and road and driveway are covered in debris. We're still without power. It was mostly just heavy rain and heavy wind though, so the thick wooded areas took a beating. It's kind of weird when I watch the news and see the folks in the nearby city/town getting on as if nothing's amiss while I'm cowering in my house feeling as if I'm in a warzone.

With all the leaves that have already been stripped from the trees, I'm anticipating a light raking season. Smiley: smile

Yeah, we got to do a few patrols there for security purposes. That was quite invigorating. I "might" have been on the news, and I hope it wasn't when I got bored and started wearing water wings and a snorkel.

Lost my power at noon on Sunday and just got it back sometime today while I was at work. Needless to say, Sunday was as boring as hell.

Yeah, it took me a few passes to parse that correctly.

Well, our train station was closed again today due to flooding. Drove an hour in traffic to get to the next open one, only to find that there were no parking spots left. Tried to call the office, only to find that my phone didn't work.

Went back home frustrated.

Moi aussi. Which brings me to my next point, Quebec's not underwater. Smiley: frown

As of Wednesday at 7:00am (est), my street is still without power. Smiley: mad

The response from the power distribution company, as compared to our more normal wintertime outages, seems pretty lackadaisical. The weather around here, since Irene's departure, has been picture perfect. Still, I need to wash clothes.

I'm so glad Vermont is in so much trouble, especially the isolated communities. Nothing but anti-societal troglodytes (basically towns filled with varuses) who are still pissed off about getting electricity wired to them. Fuck em all, let em drown, bring the reporters home. There's nothing of value left to cover there.

Our internet was the last thing to be repaired, as they got our power back on Monday evening, just before I was going to bed. We got half of the tree in our back yard cut down, when the chain saw quit working for my brother-in-law. He been busy since Sunday clearing trees for people and willing to work for Jonwin on what he is getting after the insurance deductible, since I'm family Smiley: smile

We just have to stack the wood for a neighbor to haul down to his house, for heat this winter.

I've found the people of vermont to be very friendly. Twice I've had a vehicle bread down on the way to Montreal, and both times, people were incredibly helpful. Hell, one guy who owned a junk yard even gave us a free tire and rim.

It's a mixed bag, but they don't call them Vermonsters for nothing. We used to snowboard up there every winter, and there's definitely some hostility among the locals towards ski tourism. It's a bit ridiculous, considering that the tourism is basically the only thing bringing any livelihood to a lot of areas there.
