I have to be honest, I haven't been following this case really. Other than what I hear in passing the only thing I read was an interview of the maid in Newsweek (I think). I know only hearing one side of the argument doesn't leave me a lot of room to talk, but she sounded damn convincing. Sure, there was inconsistencies, but didn't they find his sperm mixed with her saliva on the floor?

Anyways, I was just curious what people who have been following this think.

Apparently they found enough inconsistency in what she said about other things to cast reasonable doubt on her credibility in the case. That and it was turning into a he-said she-said thing, which never works out well for the victim. I was under the impression that these kind of cases are difficult to prosecute anyway.

She had lied about a gang-rape in Guinea to help get refugee status in the US. And made some ill-timed remarks on tape that could be construed as her planning to make this event a big pay day for her. Along with some other stuff, there was just no way they were going to get a jury to convict.

There was ample DNA evidence that a sexual encounter took place but not much to indicate that it was rape. She had some redness that could have been caused by numerous things but lacked any deep bruising, etc. While that doesn't prove he didn't do it*, it was the prosecutions job to prove that he did and the evidence just wasn't there to overcome the lack of the defendant's credibility.

I guess that's why he's got to go to Washington and "straighten out" his personal matters.

I'd rather send a thousand innocent men to jail then let one rapist go free.

I made an extremely hyperbolic and simplistic statement on my feelings regarding the trial, wrapped up in a take on a quote made my Chief Wiggum on an episode of The Simpson's I saw last night.

You guys sure know how to take the **** out of my own little in-jokes. Smiley: jester

That you prefer to err on the side of state sanctioned injustice rather than uncaught lawbreakers?

Wasn't this guy the Head of the IMF?
I'm pretty sure that makes him the king of the world and therefore able to rape entire orphanages full of puppies that rescued drowning children and get a medal for doing it.

Obviously not since he enjoyed a stay at Rikers Island based on the accusation.

Umm it's the age of transparency. Powerful white men don't get to simply have their way with innocents anymore. Hell, Bill couldn't even get a bj without an impeachment.
