One Ring...Follow

Me & the GF had plans to meet some friends out on Saturday night, so I called my buddy Ryan & got him to invite us out to a bar called The Baseball Tavern, which just happened to be where we met on our first date (She was 1.5 hours late that night 3 years ago, but it turns out that she was worth it). He then feigned an emergency & I took the GF to the restaurant we ate at on the first date, Burton's. That was followed but a short walk through the gardens by the Fens, where I started my speech & got on a knee...

And before I got 3 words in she yelled "Shut Up!", started freaking out a bit, & crying.

So, I got to skip most of the speech, put the ring on it, & now I have a fiance. She was completely surprised & honestly, I was more nervous asking her Dad for permission.

After the crying, on her part, we met some friends at the bar we had our last drink of the night on our first date, The Lower Depths in Kenmore, & got our drink on. It was a hoot.

It would have been the perfect night, if I hadn't drunkenly slammed the tip of my thumb in the car door at the end of the night. Still hurts & I doubt the nail will survive, but its better than it was yesterday.

So you asked her to marry you, then got drunk and made her drive? Good start from her perspective, I'm sure.

Congrats to you and my sympathies for her.

I didn't go to Jared, I went here. The whole "buying a diamond ring" process is one I'm glad I shouldn't have to repeat, 'cause it sucked. I had a stone left to me from my Grandmother (it was the stone from her engagement ring), so we went & looked at mountings in the spring. The guy who helped us showed us only mountings that would fit my stone, but when I went to buy it the stone didn't fit & they had to order another.

Upside, is between the time I went to get it & the time I got the new mounting, the price went up almost $2K, which I didn't have to pay. So the ring appraises for considerably more than I paid for it.

IDK, elope? Her parents are the first generation from parents of Japanese immigrants who met in concentration camps in Wyoming during WWII, so I wasn't sure on the protocol. But, since they're Americans, I went with what my Dad would have expected.

I want to enjoy being engaged, but there are all ready wedding magazines, talking of dates & numbers of guests, as well as a blog in the works where the fiance & her friend, also newly engaged, will blog their wedding planning.

But I have beer.

Congrats, Omega! Nice choice for a ring. Sorry I couldn't make it out to the bar last weekend to celebrate with you guys. Turns out I'm stuck in Reedley for an additional week because all the flights back this weekend were cancelled due to the hurricane and sold out for the rest of the week. I told the wife and her parents the news and they're extremely happy for you both!
