Friday Thread. Smiley: nod

Ignore the video if you'd like, I just needed to have fun with the ability to post videos. How long have we had that by the way? I only just found out today. Beans.

First weekend I've had off work for a while, and I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it.

Tonight: Chill, work on my upcoming internet-radio show.

Tomorrow: Take the lady-friend out for dinner, go to a party.

Sunday: It's my birthday, haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, though whatever it is may or may not include artificially induced hallucinations, depending on availability.

We've had the youtube ability since the latest forum revamp. Not very long.

I'm going camping this weekend. I've been camping pretty much every weekend this summer, it's been fantastic.

I broke up with my girlfriend of a year and a half last night. Smiley: frown Not feeling too happy about it, but I feel it was the right thing to do. Hopefully we'll both get over it and be ok relatively quickly, but boy does it suck right now.

On the plus side, I'm going on vacation until the 29th, driving up to MA to visit friends along the way and in Boston. That should be a lot of fun, but a loooooong drive. Hoping I can make it all right.

Yeah, didn't you refer to her family as the "possibly future in-laws?"

Sorry, Locke. That sucks.

AS for this weekend, I'm probably going to try to clean out our closet tonight. Tomorrow is my niece's 5th birthday party, then I'll work on my paper tomorrow night, and finish it up on Sunday.

Boring boring boring. I miss my husband... Smiley: frown

Not that anyone wants my sob story, but yeah...

Second longest relationship I've had, and we were thinking of marriage once she finished her degree in two years. However, for the last few months I haven't felt as close to her as I had previously. There would be times that I wouldn't see her for a few days and I'd be upset, but then others when a week would go by and I'd go "Meh, no big deal." Her views on relationships were much different: she felt like two people need one another to be "complete," whereas I felt like two people need to be complete to come into a relationship, and then help each other grow even more as a result. Then there were the cultural/religious differences, Creationism and Southern Baptism, blah blah blah.

What it really came down to for me is that I was comfortable, but not happy in the relationship. I found myself thinking many times "This is ok, I could definitely do worse," and finally realized that that's NOT the foundation I want a relationship to be based on. With her I was never challenged to grow, to get out and meet new people, to try new things. I stagnated. She's a wonderful person, but not the right person to me. When I found myself looking into the future, I couldn't see myself being happy by staying with her, and it wasn't fair to either of us.

Didn't make ending it any easier. I spent last night in a weepy, blurry daze. Even today I think my brain is more blocking it out than dealing with it. Shock will likely set in later, but hopefully not until after my vacation.

Whew. Sob story over.

Edit: Said content instead of comfortable.

Well, my husband and I aren't separating, just separated at the moment. Soon as I can either sell the house, get a job in HI, or win the lottery, I'll be joining him.

Oh I know. Just remarking on the lonesomeness.

And you're moving to Hawaii, for god's sake. You don't get to feel bad.

PS: If you're not having any luck with your conventional job search stuff, I have a decent system for getting applications out via email to a lot of companies very fast. I applied to about 950 firms across the US in just a few weeks that way. I cant remember what field you're in, but it might be helpful. I can PM you the details later if you want.

But thanks for the well-wishing, all.

Also, I have to do some clothes shopping for my first holiday with the girlfriend. Apparently I have to dress nicely for dinner. Camouflage shorts do not count as dressing nicely. Smiley: glare

I'm going to spend my weekend unemployed. My employer of 14 years has decided to throw in the towel and today is our last day. Fortunately, they were able to sell the company and I'm integral enough that I'll be starting with the new company on Monday. They're maintaining my current salary and benefits and my commute will be halved, which is a raise right there.

Going out to dinner with the girlfriend, doing some job-searching with her and then spending a weekend in. Been running around a lot, so it ought to be nice. I'm hoping someone calls back soon - she's getting pretty bored of just staying at home.

Chores and errands for the most part this weekend. I've got a to do list that I need to organize.

I just volunteered to head up organizing my high school reunion. So I guess I'll get started on making a list for that.

In an oddly related twist, some friends of mine are going to a wedding on Saturday and will be staying overnight at the hotel. I've volunteered to puppy and kitty sit for them. So I'll basically have their house within my control. I smell a party...

Gah, sorry to hear that LockeColeMA. Go ban something, it helps?

I'm apperently prepping for computer rebuilds this weekend. Upstairs I have the two computers, the primary gaming PC and the secondary "work" PC, which is where allakhazam IRC, e-mail, etc all lives. That secondary PC just informed me that one of the two 74GB 10,000 RPM hard drives is in impending failure mode. I can't complain too much as the drive is about 6 years old now, but its still annoying. So i'm contemplating aquiring a SSD for the main computer finally, or maybe a pair of smaller SSD's in raid 0 mode. The drive is hurting enough on the secondary computer that I expect it will be dead before the new drive gets here though. Everything is all backed up if it does go, but i'm hopeing it holds on until the new stuff gets here so i can just image everything over. The 15,000 RPM SAS drives in this computer would be transferred to the secondary computer, then this one would get the SSD.

Other than that, did some gardening (today being my day off), went to the dentest, did some errand running, and put my new clams in the fish tank. Later in the weekend is still up in the air.

I hit a snag almost immediately. Apparently I've got a tell, because she sniffed out the plans. At least, she got fairly suspicious...flat out asked me if I was about to propose or something, because I was "acting odd." Smiley: eek

Then she said that just in case, she didn't want me to do it when she wasn't dressed for it...like in her pj's or something. I had been planning on asking her at her horse show, when she'd be in her riding gear, so I guess that's out the window now. I managed to downplay any suggestion that I was about to do it, but her radar is definitely up now.

Ugh.

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO HARD?

Back to the drawing board, I guess.

My husband and I were living together before we got married. And I still remember when/how he "proposed". We were both in the kitchen and I was pulling the trash bag out of the trash can to take it outside and he said "You know, we should go get married!" Smiley: laugh
