Indiana cuts off Planned ParenthoodFollow

#252Almalieque, Posted: May 15 2011 at 8:42 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was using legal procedures that technically don't have to be health related at all since it's not being funded by the government. Ironically, it works for abortion, but there must be a distinction when using other procedures, which is exactly what they were arguing against, unfair treatment based on personal opinions. Just because you see no value in liposuction, doesn't make it any more or less important than an abortion. I'm sure there are women who would rather have liposuction than an abortion.

Spelling phonetically is a sign of laziness, though. It doesn't take much to, y'know, look up what you're saying.

Almalieque wrote:
That's the exact argument that the military accepted, which I stated numerous times already. Besides, you conveniently left out liposuction.
So what if the military accepted it? PP isn't a military run program.

Liposuction isn't a medical procedure either, not really. Unless you're suggesting it's used for treatment of the morbidly obese? If it's in that regard, afaik stomach bands are more effective 'treatment'. So I stand by what I said before, cosmetic surgery has very little to do with medical health.

If every time the GOP tries this and they get PP to stop doing whatever they wanted them to stop, why wouldn't the GOP just do it for each item?

One of my tabs is "dictionary.com", hence why I'm always referencing to "Dictionary.com". I'm not lazy, I'm just not perfect. I made a mistake, I misspelled a word. It's really not that big of a deal. Words are misspelled all the time, people only make deals out of it when they have no argument.

As I said, it doesn't have to be health related at all since the government isn't funding it. It might as well be a strip joint or a liquor store. You're making a distinction that isn't necessary, but complain when that same distinction is being made for abortion.

Lol... you're just saying that because you're promoting this campaign of ignoring me, instead people are ignoring your campaign. Do you really think that is going to happen? How many "The liberals are taking over/Obama sucks" threads from Varus will people continue to participate in before they stop engaging in them? It's the same routine. Find a news article, randomly select a text and tie it in on how the Obama administration and all liberals are ruining the world. You all spent two pages arguing that white people do indeed act out in public like black people. Seriously? Does ANYONE not believe that people of all ethnic backgrounds have acted out in public?

Yea, so you're selling yourself short on high hopes.

At the risk of backing this up to a point where it was still semi-sane:

Majivo wrote:

*cough*

Isn't that exactly what Daniels is doing? He's changing the law so that the loophole which allows an organization to perform abortions in one part of the same building where they use government funds for other services can be closed. So if that's what you think the right course of action is, then why are people complaining?

Quote:
Attempting to strong-arm Planned Parenthood into giving up abortions, even though it acts completely within the law, is not the way to go.

Except this thread is about the state of Indiana doing exactly what you just said they should. Yet, not surprisingly, this is still met with a chorus of objections. Which makes one suspect that for some, it's not really about doing this the right way, or what the law says, but about picking a side for or against PP and sticking with that side no matter what.

More like just throwing the entire rope away. I mean, if you can't fix one loop in an entire rope, the best solution is to give up and get rid of the entire thing.

But Gbaji says that doesn't happen!!

Actually, I'm not sure if they can use an actual sanctuary (and am too lazy to try and look) but they can certainly keep dual-purpose auxiliary buildings for both religious and quasi-secular government funded charitable functions.

So the GOP is okay with religion using government funds to keep the lights on in their Bible studies but work to close down clinics that maintain separate building wings under separate books for the purposes of abortion. But the GOP isn't about social engineering at all!

The only example I can think of off the top of my head is a soup kitchen at a church. There is a stipulation that they can't hold a sermon during those sessions, but can we really say the same money used to pay for that soup doesn't pay to keep the lights on during Sunday School?

Should I have to point out that, much like abortion, I have no problem with soup kitchens either? Or is my satirical outrage at the concept of soup kitchens obvious enough? Another one of those silly things to fight over, and doubly so to be hypocritical over.

Hit the churches the same way... The "soup kitchen" is no different in concept. The only "difference" is acceptance in society. People favor soup kitchens, but society is divided on abortions. This goes back to PP replacing the abortion section with cosmetic surgery or a strip club. We are making unnecessary distinctions. If it's something we value, then it's ok, if it's something we don't value, then it's not ok. At the end, it's the same thing.

No, he passed a law which defunds PP but doesn't touch the loophole at all. It'd be like if I decided that oil companies should pay more taxes but I didn't want to do it to all oil companies, just Exxon, so I found some pictures of the CEO and blackmailed him into returning a few billion to the government. The effect might be the same, but that is not the way to go about it at all.

See, that's the difference between varus and some of the other posters, he can on occasion be amusing.

I don't think we should be making fun of Varus for being a homosexual. That's really not very nice. It takes a lot of courage to put your profile on the internet and find guys willing for a hot night of sweaty buttsex with no names and no strings attached.

I'm not a genius (feel free to quote that), but I think the point is that he is defunding PP by closing the loop hole. Either move the abortion section out of the building or lose funding.

No, he passed a law which defunds PP but doesn't touch the loophole at all.

Huh? It directly affects the loophole. The relevant portion of the law says the following:

Quote:
Prohibits state agencies from entering contracts with or making grants to any entity that performs abortions or maintains or operates a facility where abortions are performed. Cancels state funding for any current contracts with or grants to any entity that performs abortions or maintains or operates a facility where abortions are performed.

It does not mention Planned Parenthood at all. It only targets PP to the degree that PP does exactly what you said it was ok to block if one did it by passing a law. The law exactly and perfectly targets that loophole we spoke of earlier.

So why do you have a problem with it?

It'd be like if I decided that oil companies should pay more taxes but I didn't want to do it to all oil companies, just Exxon, so I found some pictures of the CEO and blackmailed him into returning a few billion to the government. The effect might be the same, but that is not the way to go about it at all.

Lol! Really? You just make stuff up?
