#2gbaji, Posted: May 04 2011 at 11:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) What a horribly constructed quiz. Sorry. I got about halfway through, and ran into so many questions in which I either strongly disagreed with both options, or where the two options were not exclusive and I equally agreed with both that I almost just gave up. It's that bad and assumes a very narrow set of specific political assumptions which I find borderline offensive.

I thought a lot of the choices were too narrow going through it and then it ultimately gave me an answer that did fit me rather well, so there ya go. You seem to think it also pegged you accurately so you might want to reassess how crappy it is :D

I too, must agree with Gbaji. The quiz overgeneralizes everything. I'd like to see a truly in depth quiz that doesn't primarily rely upon conservative and liberal as the furthest stances to either direction.

Apparently I'm some sort of librarian. Which makes sense given the number of books I have. That being said, the thing still makes some rather broad assumptions. I'm pretty certain not all you democrats are completely against any form of a military for one. I'm even pretty certain that at least one or two of them out there sees the benifits inherent in replacing things that are very old and require alot of maintenance with things that are newer and won't require the same amount of manpower or resources but at the same time work better and are stronger platforms. Ford class carriers, F-22, The new DDG1000, etc.

I don't know how other Democrats feel, but I see military allocation as a question of sustainability and growth. The concept is demonstrated fairly well in most RTS games. Pumping too many resources early on into your military strength slows down your economy, which in turn reduces your future military might. Typically you want to have the minimum number of units required to defend yourself so that you can pump the rest of your resources into growth. I see the goal as to maintain a minimum level of defense while building up the most fundamental force responsible for your growth. Building fighters now make you stronger in the present, but it takes resources away from conducting fighter research, which will give you strong fighters later on. Pumping funds into fighter research gives you stronger fighters in a few years, but it takes away from pumping money into infrastructure to increase the strength of your economy and thus increase the amount of money you can pump into fighter research, which increase the strength of your fighters later on. However pumping money into purely infrastructure projects takes away from resources into education, which slows the growth of your economy, which slows the growth of your fighter research, which detracts from the quality and number of fighters you can field.

I wouldn't want the U.S. to be stronger now when it means that ultimately it will be weaker in the next decades.

The benefits of being aggressive and proactive with your military also decrease as the number of opponents increase. In Risk it's a bad idea to spend all of your armies taking out a rival while another one sits there building up troops waiting for you to weaken yourself. Soft power is real power, because you want other people to spend their resources fighting your enemies for you.

The current U.S. military strategy is awful. We make absolute gains, but suffer comparative losses. We weaken ourselves to weaken one enemy, while other enemies stay the same or grow stronger. Nation building makes us weaker. Having too large of an army makes us weaker.

It's fun filling out quizzes for another nation :D

No surprise, I'm a Solid Liberal in American terms.

The conclusions nailed me totally, even if they are "generalisations". I'm the Aussies equivalent of this lot:

What I Believe

* Strongly pro-government and very liberal on a broad range of issues
* Very supportive of regulation, environmental protection and government assistance to the poor
* One of the most secular groups; 59% say that religion is not that important to them
* Supportive of the country's growing racial and ethnic diversity
* Two-thirds disagree with the Tea Party

Who They Are

* Highly politically engaged
* 75% are Democrats Greens, Labour Party, or Independant voter
* Concentrated in the Northeast and West: that's where I'd decide between moving to if I moved to the US
* 57% are female.
* Best educated of the groups: 49% hold at least a bachelor's degree.
* A third regularly listen to NPR, about two-in-ten regularly watch The Daily Show and read The New York Times: Australian equivalent.
* 59% have a passport
* 42% regularly buy organic foods. Totally. Strangely, it's more filling, and thus works out the same price as crude oil grown produce.
* 21% are first or second generation Americans. Second generation Australian.

I filled out the Quiz as I would have done if it was about my country (The Netherlands) and I'm still considered a 'solid liberal'.
Given that your left wing makes our right wing look like left wing fanatics I'd guess that I'd come out even further to the left if I filled it out for America.

Post-Modern, while differing (I'm assuming here) from Joph on at least a handful of questions. Religion isn't important to me, for example.

It's pretty clever in the way it recasts questions to narrow down one's point of view. I believe a strong military is necessary, but I don't think it should be the first option.

I agree that while going through the quiz the questions seem far too limited, but I don't argue with the result.

I'm starting to see why Varus would consider me a liberal, even though I associate most with conservative (albeit, Canadian conservative), if my results are coming up similar as Joph and Samira. Liberal nutcases if you ask me.

I ended up at the same spot on the quiz, though I don't quite identify with the beliefs section as much as I do with the one for Libertarians. Much like Gbaji, I really didn't like the way the questions were done.

I started it with an open mind realizing that it isn't "perfect", but I had to stop at question 3 or 4. That is indeed a horrible written quiz. At least have a neutral answer available.

I found the poll interesting mainly because it wasn't another one of those grid style affairs.

I found the questions to be frustratingly inappropriate to match my 'leanings'. None-the-less, this type of either or isn't constructed to nail down individual attitudes. The directions say 'pick the best choice', so I did.

I'm a solid liberal. No surprise there.

I find myself quite unsurprised. I wish the poll was a little better done and covered a wider range of politics.
