So Bush gets all the credit he's due(for failing to capture Bin Laden).

It's a mis-quote, likely propagated by the same people who made up the documents Dan Rather used for his top-notch reporting on CBS. The actual transcript, with context:
Quote:
THE PRESIDENT: Deep in my heart I know the man is on the run, if he's alive at all. Who knows if he's hiding in some cave or not; we haven't heard from him in a long time. And the idea of focusing on one person is — really indicates to me people don't understand the scope of the mission. Terror is bigger than one person. And he's just — he's a person who's now been marginalized. His network, his host government has been destroyed. He's the ultimate parasite who found weakness, exploited it, and met his match. He is — as I mentioned in my speech, I do mention the fact that this is a fellow who is willing to commit youngsters to their death and he, himself, tries to hide — if, in fact, he's hiding at all. So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you. I'm more worried about making sure that our soldiers are well-supplied; that the strategy is clear; that the coalition is strong; that when we find enemy bunched up like we did in Shahikot Mountains, that the military has all the support it needs to go in and do the job, which they did.
Q: But don't you believe that the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead or alive?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, as I say, we haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I — I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him. I know he is on the run. I was concerned about him, when he had taken over a country. I was concerned about the fact that he was basically running Afghanistan and calling the shots for the Taliban.

Deathwysh wrote:
Also all the credit he's due for fUcking up the global economy.

It's cute that you believe that. Seriously though, any grown ups?

EDIT: The transcript for the presser misquoted frequently in this thread.
I assume you're equally outraged at Fox News every time they report something later shown to not be factual?

Try to keep up and not confuse me with some of the more Republican leaning retards around here. I have frequently made it known that I have no special love of either of the majority political camps in my country and have no problem at all calling out left or right wing pundits when they get it wrong.

Of course, that answer assumes you're not being a douche bag and actually have an example of Fox News propagating a quote that never happened. If you're simply going to critique their editorializing on subjective matters, that will bother me considerably less.

EDIT: Also, "outraged" is a bit over the top, ya think?

I dunno, for a mixed race man growing up in the 60's/70's I think he did pretty well for himself.

But if using the pronoun 'I' makes one sad, pathetic and little I guess there's no arguing the point.

Do you count "I"s often? (seems like a sad pathetic little habit)

To stop people using his grave as a shrine, at least that's what it said on the news.

/sigh

I was at our dining hall just now sitting at a table next to two stupid, racist frat guys. Can we get Obama's "This is not about Islam" part of the speech inserted into moron's brain's, on loop?

I'm actually really nervous for Muslim Americans right now. I'm sure some are going to end up being victimized over this by racist pricks... I'm not talking about 9/11 levels here, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if some reports start coming out in the next day or so.

:(

If it came out that his body met some other fate, I guess I wouldn't be surprised but at the same time -- why not dump it overboard? What else are we going to do with it? Dissect his brain?

Last night when I went to bed, all the networks were going on about how we would need to produce the body to convince the terrorist world that we really had killed him, which is why they "captured" his body to begin with. Apparently that changed in the 7 hours I slept.

There's certainly no tangible proof now, you must admit.

We could use it to find the terrorism gene and prove once and for all that terrorism is not a choice.

I would have been ashamed of the US if we desecrated his corpse. He had to die to open a path to peace, that's obvious. This is what many peoples' sense of justice demanded as well.

But if you really want to send a message, make it clear that we have the dignity to accept a victory and move on.

The whole thing just makes me sad. I mourn what he could have been--with the kind of mind and charisma he must have had to be such a massive influence. He could have been a huge source of good in the world, had he been born into different circumstances.

Islam
The sacred texts of Islam prefer burial on land, "so deep that its smell does not come out and the beasts of prey do not dig it out". However, if a person dies at sea and it is not possible to bring the body back to land before decay, burial at sea is allowed. A weight is tied to the feet of the body, and the body is lowered into the water. This would preferably occur in an area where the remains are not immediately eaten by scavengers. Also, if an enemy may dig up the grave to mutilate the body, it is also allowed to bury the deceased at sea to avoid mutilation.
