has finally caught up in San Diego. I know, compared to other areas, it's absolutely nothing. 49 degrees, windy, rainy. And my car hydro-planed when I was getting onto the freeway. I missed the concrete barricade by centimeters and thankfully, no cars hit me. But then I almost got into another accident a mile later when a car ahead of me hydro-planed and took out another car. I stopped just in time to avoid that collision and the car behind me got rear-ended.

Lucky that I didn't have a car accident but for other reasons, this Monday morning just sucks.

It's weird in Cali, because it only rains for a few months every year. So A, people completely forget how to drive in rain; and B, the roads have a buildup of oil and what not that makes them about as treacherous as black ice - at least for the first rain.

I love the rain, but yeah. People need to slow down, and everyone assumes that means everyone else.

It was 49 and rainy here this morning, too, and I almost got in a wreck on my way to work.

They're saying that by five this evening, it'll be 30 degrees and this rain will turn into ice and sleet. Lovely. Perhaps another three and a half hour drive home for me.

It's 15 degrees out right now, with wind from the north at about 10 mph, making it 4 degrees with windchill. supposed to go sub zero tonight.

And the AC is on in my office.

It was near 60 degrees yesterday, then it dropped, and dropped, and dropped. This morning it was 15 degrees, with a coating of ice on everything.

The trip to work was...treacherous. Smiley: frown

I think the air temp out side is sitting at around 5, with the windchill around -22. Pretty much normal for Nebraska, no trees to block the wind.

It was -12F here this morning. My car didn't want to start, but I made it. For a little while, I thought maybe a fell asleep and woke up in Montana.

I should just re-name this thread "Thumb Misses Car Accidents Today." Had to go pick up my daughter from school today and bring her back to the house and head back into work. Atrocious rain makes visibility pretty much nil. See some driver go from the fast lane and try to cross 4 lanes to get to the exit lane. Not good. He loses control, plows into two cars in front of me. I'm in one of the middle lanes and instinctively start pumping my brakes, I start to spin and end up on the shoulder of the freeway, and somehow missed all other cars.

Highway Patrol arrives to find cars were all turned which way. Traffic came to a dead stop and it turns out that I'm not the only one facing the wrong direction. The cop checks on me, asks if I want to file a report. I say no so he waves me to get my car pointed in the right direction and on my merry way.

I'm so not looking forward to the drive home tonight.

I'd invite you over but I don't think the wife would approve.

Today it was 60(!!) and cloudy. Boy will I be pissed if christmas comes with no snow again. Didn't go into work till this afternoon, but did take Thom to the doctor's.

The problem with SoCal drivers is that such weather is so horribly rare that no one has any idea how to cope when it does happen.

5 degrees (if you believe the bank; 1 degree or less otherwise), snowing, wind from hell making the windchill roughly cold enough to liquefy nitrogen.

I just looooooooooove Central Oregon. :-/

EDIT: Also, can someone give me the number for the Border Patrol or the INS? I'd like them to deport this weather back to Canada, where it belongs.

Snowed all last week. Then over the weekend it rained, then last night it froze (8-10 F) and I had to spend 5-10 minutes breaking through the ice to get to open my car door. It involved kicking at the door til it opened a little, then kicking some more. It was more of a stomp actually... bottom of foot straight into the door seam.

By then my fingers are too numb to feel my keys as a fumble to turn the car on.

It's been under 10F all day long. I tried to stay indoors as much as possible.

Ack! What amazed me was the number of just plain stupid folks out there today. It's like they forget simple stuff like say turning their damn headlights on when visibility is low (like on the freeway when it's raining really hard).

I have a *very* short drive into work. I do get on the freeway, then off at the next exit (saves a ton of surface street time). I can normally see cars coming up from behind as I'm merging onto the freeway, but today it was like "guess and hope" day, since about 75% of the cars on that stretch didn't have their lights on. I almost merged right into a car, but my spidey sense went off and I *really* craned my neck around to look in the blindspot on my side and barely noticed the car (sans headlights) right there. So not only driving with no lights on, but matching speeds in the blindspot of a car in a lane that has to merge with his. Sheesh!

Didn't see any accidents, but I'm not surprised there were a ton. It's doubly bad when the first rain is a pretty strong one. Not only super slick, but also very low visibility...

I hate it when people don't have their lights on during early morning, dusk, and just plain foggy/rainy weather.

People need to realize that head lights are not only for the driver to be able to see, but for other drivers to be able to see you. I see about 25% of the drivers coming home from work (I get out at about 6pm and it's pretty dark) driving without any lights on.

Last time I was driving on the freeway during a pretty nasty mid day snow storm. I passed a woman in a PT Cruiser. As soon as I passed her I glanced in my rear view, and I could barely see her. I passed a Semi a little ways away, and then I saw her try and pass the Semi. I just knew that the Semi driver couldn't see her. As soon as she go ahead of him the semi started flashing his lights at her trying to tell her to turn her lights on.

She never turned them on. I almost wished she had been side swiped by that Semi for her stupidity.

I used the one quarter inch of ice on the roads this morning and the subsequent school closures as an excuse to work from home today. My car is in the exact same spot it was last night around this time. Smiley: cool

I hate that you work right off the 56. You suck. At least I'm off the 15 and don't deal with the 5/805 hassle. But I'm still jealous of your commute.

About 24 degrees, 3 mile an hour winds and 5 inches of snow with freezing rain.
