Congratulations are in order. Here's to Barack governing levelheadedly, with passion, and an eye to all segments of society. May he have a good four-- or eight --years where he leads by stellar example, with a blemishless administration, and an impartial spirit.

/salute to the Asylum

Yes, it's like a quadrille. When a Democrat is in office Smash, Joph, Flea, Nexa and a few of us others turn conservative.

Gbaji and virus become bleeding heart liberals.

It's quite fun.

And as a long time vegetarian, I just wanted to ask everyone to take a moment off from their celebrations to spare a thought for all the buffalo that at this very moment are being slaughtered in honour of President Obama all over Africa.

Congrats to Obama, and to all of you that worked hard to support him. It's truly a historic day for the country, and for the Democratic party.

Not to put a damper on the moment, but I wonder how long it will take for the stars to fade, so to speak. It's one thing to support a party, and the figurehead of said ideology, but it's entirely another thing to support every policy a candidate plans to make into law. Considering he'll have large majorities in both chambers of Congress, I can see Obama getting ambitious and pushing through some pretty left stuff. How long before the "blue dogs" and the moderates start to break the party line?

I'll set the over/under at 9 months. I'm tempted to take the over, but not by much.

That was a pretty classy speech by McCain, too. Too bad his rabid "supporters" (well, Palin supporters) booed him every time he said anything remotely conciliatory. It's nice to see him end his campaign on that note; I really do respect the guy.

UGA Law Dems at the Georgia Theater were silent or applauded quietly during most of McCain's speech.

Except when he mentioned Palin. She got the boos from us, you betcha.

If the John McCain that gave that speech tonight had been the John McCain that ran against Obama, this race would have been a lot closer.

Odd! Because after all, she probably did as much as almost anyone to ensure Obamas win.

When I watched his concession speech, I felt the same way. I was almost sad he lost and felt that his supporters on hand during that speech marked it with a blemish.

And I do hope we get 8 good years from Obama and not a few months ending with bloodshed because he can make this a better country. At least that's what I believe.

Honestly, in my lifetime, there has never been a president-elect under more pressure. More promise, more potential, more opportunity and less excuses; so long as the congressional races continue toward a super majority.

Of course, I've never been as optimistic, either. I think the man understands the ultimate gravity of his station, and I have faith unlike I ever had in a politician.

I mean, ask yourself: even before 9/11. did you think Bush was going to be a man we celebrated in a century? Were there policy points you got hard for? Because I am so hard for our first Moslim Executive Officer.

Edit: I think it's clear that I am drunk, and thus I will not correct my grammaticarial errorrs.

Dont get me wrong I still love McCain. I have felt safe with him as my senator and will continue to re-elect him as long as he runs.

But today I am full of hope and CHEERS!

I wanted to go out, find a pre-printed President McCain t-shirt, and wear it around for the rest of the week. The wife didn't like that idea though.

Ooof, I had to go to work with a hangover from celebratory binge drinking last night.

A good breakfast, lots of fluids, and a Vicodin seem to be erasing it, though.
