I've been thinking more and more of getting a motorcycle lately. The country highways up here are much better suited than Westchester gridlock and road rage.

I dunno, I think anyone on a motorcycle in rush hour traffic on a major highway is taking their life into their own hands.

I have noticed alot more people on them lately since the price of gas has skyrocketed. People in Dallas during rush hour are just plain crazy. Let's face it, there are some motorcycle drivers that shouldn't own one either, simply because they think general rules of the road don't apply to them, i.e. driving downt he middle of the road where the road stripe is or driving on the median.

If you see one of them in your rear-view mirror coming up alongside, just pop your door open. Smiley: sly

I sold my Ducati after I skidded along the turnpike about a hundred yards because I missed some cinders. Luckily it was a construction zone so I was only going about 20-25mph. F[black][/black]ucking cinders. Road rash FTW Smiley: glare

just wanted to point out from the start....

a Lincoln towncar is made......by FORD. ford engine, ford electronics, ford chasis......just plain FORD. not a ford man myself.

here are some facts for you, on average japanseese engines last around twice as long as american engines. one of the most obvious reasons are the berrings they use. while american cars use flattened out shims made of a softer metal then over lubricated, japaneese carse use pressed on roller berrings. less friction, less heat build up, exponentially longer lasting. just one thing amoung many.

the lincoln has a v8. sucky gas millage, and at 90,000 miles it is at the last quarter of its life if not at its end. the toyota is probably at half life unless it was abused.

more for you to think about. most used cars come with 3 year loans, rarley 5 year loans. your loan payment on a brand new car at around 12,000 dollars on a 5 year loan with new car intrest rates would be about the same as on a 6000 3 year loan on used car inteerest rates.

for the same money every month, you could have a new car with ZERO miles adn 3 years left on teh warentee.

my suggestion? buy new. KIA, Saturn, or any japaneese entry level car would do. very dependable, very economical, very...smart,

if you want to buy new....keep looking. i wouldnt touch an american car with over 60,000 miles, you couldnt give me one with 90,000. if your gona buy used, buy japaneese.

wont even mention gas millage.

i just bought a new chevy HHR. im 6,1 and medium build, around 200 lbs. its fine for me. not as large as i would like, but large enough.....AND....it has a 4 cyclinder.

whats great about an american 4 cylinder? american car companies DO NOT MAKE a 4 cylinder engine. they use japaneese motors. dodge usses mitsubishi, chevy usses nissian, and ford im not sure about. the best of both worlds. style, and japannses dependability.

adn most japaneese 4 cylinders will run circles around american v6,s

Lincoln is a good brand, all of its cars are good, except for the Mark LT, I don't get the point of a luxury pickup.

Lincoln is a good brand,
--------------------------
its still a ford.

somethign else to think about, with lincoln AND cadilac.

they are made with state of the art equipment for the time. for example, my brothers lincoln town car lost its power windows a few years back befoer he traded it in.

in ANY other ford, you would hop down to the dealer, spend 150 to 200 bucks on a new power window motor, and away you go.

in the lincoln.....however.....the entire power window system is HYDROLIC. yep, 1500 bucks for that state of the art super duper hydrolic motor that runs ALL teh windows. thats right, when it goes, not one window stops working they ALL do.

the altinator went out. no biggie. 45 bucks from ford, 29 bucks for an aftermarket rebuild and away you go.

nope. the altinator in a lincoln town car is a super duper 120 watt mega power plant spacifically designed to fit the super special mounting brackets in their state of the art show car.

300 bucks later just for the part...........

he paid 5000 bucks for it when it was 5 years old and had 55,000 miles on it. he spent well over another 3000 dollars in repairs over the next 4 years he owned it, and no one would even take it on trade at 9 years old and 120,000 miles. he sold it for about 1200 dollars with broken power windows AGAIN.

for around 9000 dollars at the time, he could ahve bought a brand new saturn, drivin it for 4 years, traded it in with 65,000 miles for about half of what he paid for it.

get the picture yet? buying used is not always the best plan economically. especially a used luxury car. their value sinks like a rock unless you buy a lexus, or german luxury sedan.

if you are going to buy used, think dependability over style. think japaneese, they have without question the best engineered cars in the world. someday, american car companies will wake up and start delivering dependability. they EXPECT you to buy a new car in less than 5 years, so make no effort to develop technology designed to outlast the factory warentee. the american mindset. maximize profit, minimize cost = ford, chevy, dodge.

the japaneese mind set, make the best manufactured product in teh world and sell it to the entire world = toyota, nissian, mitsubishi, honda.

Every car company tries to make their cars as cheap as they can and sell them for 3 times how much they paid to make it. All car companys do that.
