I say he's putting more of his cronies in high places so he doesn't have to answer to those nit-picking civillians and can continue to rape the law and further exploit the power of his office in a Nixon-like power grab.

I dunno... Hastert doesn't like Hayden.

Then again, I don't like Hastert much. I bet this is some of that reverse psychology to make me support Hayden Smiley: mad

Maybe, but it was GOP politicos who came out swinging first, saying this a bad, bad idea.

Not just the military, but THIS part of the military. You know, the same one who hasn't yet been able to understand that covert domestic wiretapping without a warrant is unconstitutional....

Quote:
As head of the NSA - the American electronic eavesdropping organisation - the 61-year-old oversaw the programme, which allows for the monitoring of international calls and e-mails of terrorist suspects inside the US without a warrant.

It was ordered by President Bush after the 11 September attacks, but it was Gen Hayden who took the lead in publicly defending the policy after it was disclosed in the New York Times at the end of last year.

With GOP senators?

He is a wilely devil, isn't he.

I realize this is completely out of character for me, but compared to Goss, Hayden is vastly more competent. It's like replacing your starting center on basketball team with a 7 foot tall uncoordinated mongolian with Down's syndrome. Sure, he's not going to understand everything, but he'll still do a better job than the legless dwarf with flipper hands he's replacing.

well, quite frankly, Gross wasnt doing a good enough job at stemming the screaming for heads for outing their operative.

sooo, send in someone who can.

kind of like the 3 times they sent in an ambassador to get things runnning in Iraq. as each of them said the situation was deteriorating, they were replaced untill they found someone who said what the whitehouse wanted to hear.

as far as it being a military man, probably not a bad idea. they would be more knoledgable about the capabilities and assets of the organization than another flunky like Brown.

Goss has been hated in the intel community for my enitre natural life. Anyone could have seen he'd be a disaster at CIA. Too bad no one did.

Oh wait.

I did.

Frankly I'm of the opinion that DoD should just take CIA. "Civillian" intelligence is an outmoded concept and has been since oh, Eisenhower. There's litterally no benefit to distinguishing the CIA as "civillian" at this point. Civilians work all over the military, so that's not a problem. Feild agents in non military intel gathering are 99% under State cover anyway, so just give them to State.

It's just pointless and inefficent. I'd say disolving CIA alltogether wouldn't be a bad idea, but there really is a certain amount of esprit de corps there that would be a loss. DIA and NSA have really been carrying the intel load for decades now, CIA is a boutique shop used to disguise paramilitary ops whose personell are composed almost entirely of, you guessed it, military people.

It's really quite surreal.

Yeah.. this is a crappy idea. I mean, what would a former general offer the CIA.. organization, discipline, direction? Since when is the CIA in need of organization, or discipline?

You know what this country really needs? The CIA to be run by a monkey. That way, when it continually screws up, we can just put in another monkey, and then another. We don't need any of this life-long-career-of-honor-and-distinction crap trying to run out intelligence agency like it was some kind of place for serious work or some such ****.
