The Story

I'm just not sure how polygamy rates as such a bad thing that it could get you on the top ten list for the FBI. He's got other charges, but they all seem to be related to the polygamy bit.

Now, I'm not promoting the idea that every chap should run out and get himself an extra wife or two or that a woman needs an extra husband out in the garage on standby in case the first one stops working, but I just don't get it. WTF is so bad about polygamy? If you are crazy enough to marry more than one person and further crazy enough to proclaim it to the world, why should the government try to stop you, much less put 100K on your head? The boat left and I was not on it. This is an alien concept.

I agree, TS. If people want to marry each other in droves, well, go for it, I say. I personally wouldn't want another husband or extra wives kicking around. I suspect all the uproar has to do with that handy "ideal" of marriage and rightness.

Oh. Gawd. You. Debil.

Ugh, unless each one is the perfect wife ever, than being married to multiple wives is punishment enough.

Jeffs, 50, is accused of arranging marriages between underage girls and older men. He is wanted in Arizona on criminal charges of sexual conduct with a minor. He also was charged in Utah with rape as an accomplice.

While I agree with you that he probably shouldn't be in the top 10, he does have a share of pretty bad charges. Considering the current media craze (omgz sexual predators in aol chatrooms11!!11_one_shift+one), it's not too surprising that they're focusing on him.

They'd synch up, too. Imagine how bad it could get.

As for myself, I can barely handle one girl, heh.

When there's multiple wives, I believe one wife is the head of another. Or so how it was explained to me by my girlfriend who's father and other family members are devout mormons.

Great, when they're on the cycle there is one to rally the troops against you.

The main reason he is on the list is some of those "wives" are under age. He's a pedo.

If you marry several women, and many of them are underage, that may put you in serial rapist territory.

Yeah I don't think it's so much of the multiple wives as it is the underage thing. Also he married (like a priest or whatever he claims to be) other couples as well. I also don't agree with prearranged marriages especially underage.

I think the decision should be up to the couple and not anyone else. That is why they say 'do you so-and-so take so-and-so' in the ceremony. I realize they have a power and influence over people and their decisions, but not allowing them a choice of options is against their rights. Also if a marriage is suppose to be forever then what's waiting another 5 years? If a girl or guy is 18 then they can choose whatever they want. Until then I think they have some growing up and learning to do before making such a huge decision(mistake). Even 18 is young and stupid but at least it's their mistake and not somebody else's.
