My throat is on fireFollow

I hate spring colds. I really do. Add to that I quit smoking, so my body is in the coughing phase, and Im a miserable bi[/Aliceblue]tch. I went to bed last night around 10:30pm, utterly exhausted. I was ready to simply pass out and wake up refreshes. Ha fu[Aliceblue]cking ha!
From the moment I lay down I started to cough. Nothing serious, but it was that stupid tickle in the back of your throat just just doesnt seem to go away. It escalated into a full force coughing bit by the time it was midnight. I took some cough medicine, but it did nothing. Finally I grabbed my pillow and went to sleep on the couch around 1am. I figured if I couldnt sleep at least the hubby could. I think I dozed off and on half propped up, until 4:30 when my son woke up and wanted new pants on. I listened to him whine for about 15 minutes at daddy, but daddy was comotose. ( He denies it, but he had to have been). I wandered upstairs, coughing my lungs out, helped the kid and put him in bed. Then he realized he was missing his special blanket. Coughing the whole time it took us 45 minutes to find the damned thing. I got him in bed, the husband was bi[/Aliceblue]tchy, I was bi[Aliceblue]tchy, and by then, my throat was feeling chewed up. I stumbled back to the couch and coughed for another hour before I think my body simply gave up and I passed out.

I woke up this morning and I can barely talk. My throats on fire, Im still coughing, and I think I just may find something to hit. It might make me feel better.

Any suggestions on something that can soothe my irritated chewed up throat would be heartily appreciated.

That's f'ucking hilarious. I could say mine can be blamed our making out last night. Unfortunately, its completely unrelated. I just soldiered through it, and am beginning to regret that now.

Have a tablespoon of honey 3-4 times over the course of the day. Drink some hot tea with honey in it as well if you like that. Gargling with warm water may also feel good. Try to keep your throat constantly hydrated and make sure you drink lots of water. If you have a humidifier, using that tonight when you go to bed so that the air isn't so dry in your room may also help.

Feel better sweetie!

Not sure if you are off caffeine too, but Cammoille tea with anise honey and lemon is good for cough. Gargling with warm water and salt helps with the sore throat too.

Hope you feel better.

Hot tea with honey is also one of my favorites for a sore throat, and I squeeze a lemon (lime) in it. If you need to be out and about, the riccolas with the honey center kick ***. Also, don't talk today, as much as you feel you may need to. Warn the husband and kid that physical violence may ensue if you are made to speak, because it sounds like your throat needs to rest.

Drink lots of water, avoid dairy, and if you don't have a humdifier, just set some water to a slow boil on the stove and put your face over it from time to time.

As for the persistent cough, I would list some home remedies, but I would call your doctor as I know some expectorants aren't safe for use when pregnant. Here are some home remedies I got off a site that I don't think would hurt the baby:
Quote:
Remedies for smoker's cough
Folk
Aloe vera juice Mix equal parts of aloe vera juice and honey and take a tablespoon or two as needed. Good for a smoker's cough.

Apple cider vinegar Sprinkle apple cider vinegar on your pillowcase before bedtime.

• Put 1 or 2 teaspoons of vinegar in a glass of water and keep beside your bed to use when you feel the tickling sensation coming on. Take a few swallows as needed. Vinegar dissolves mucus and reduces inflammation.

• Mix ½ cup of honey with 3-4 tablespoons of vinegar. Take one tablespoon before going to bed or during a coughing fit, and throughout the day, as needed. Stir well before use.

Pot and I dont get along. Plus whenever I smoked pot, whatever ailments I had only increased, not decreased. Not only that but when pregnant, any type of drug you take actually stays in the fetus' bloodstream for 6 months. They now automatically do blood tests the moment the child is born for any drug traces. I had an aquaintence who was with child the last time I was, and she took precription drugs that was not her own, 4 months before delivering. The child tested positive and he was taken away from her. Not necessarily a bad thing in this case as she was a complte drug addict. She never even fought to regain custody

Since this is tangentially related to home remedies, is there anything that can be done to rid myself of the horrible, rancid swamp-gas flatulence I'm currently engulfed in? It's probably due to the chili I've been eating for the past three days, but I'm afraid I'm going to suffocate in bed, even with windows open and fans blowing.

Kelvy, that would do me wonders, but my GF is down in Westchester for a few days and returning with a large stash, so I'll be set. Smiley: grin

I guess Gas-X would work...isn't that what Beano is for, too? And not eating chili is not an option.

actually Deb, if you really want to stop the gassiness, you can try one of two things. Try Gassix (sp) and see if that minimizes your bloating and eye watering fumes. If it doesnt, then you can try eating a lot of green veggies, particularly lettuce or spinache. We call that stuff ruffage in our household. It will make you clean your bowel system so there is nothing left over in your intestines to create a gassy mixutre of death. It may take a couple hours though but by tomorrow you should be all cleared out Smiley: grin

If you feel the need to puke, but your body refuses to coorperate, get yourself a tall glass of icy cold water and chug it as fast as you can. The cold will shock your stomache into contracting, thus allowing your system to empty itself. Plus the water helps to water it down ( ba dum bum) making it less unpleasant
