Oh the things we take for grantedFollow

This may be inaccurate, but I had a high school teacher that said this.

Basically she said that the american midwestern accent is a complete lack of an accent. (of course this is not presented as fact, just something that I heard.)

Her evedince for this was that national news anchors used a midwestern "non-accent".

I don't know myself, just something to think about.

It's called General American, or Standard Midwestern.


It's not that it's "a complete lack of accent," per se, it's just perceived that way because it's the default.
