I turned off my premium auto-renew as well, but not so much due to outrage at RMT. I don't really know Alla well enough to vilify him, I wasn't around during the early days, I wasn't there for his resistance to the IGE buyout or tirades against gold selling, I don't call him "Jeff." As such, I don't feel comfortable calling him a raging hypocrite or a sellout. To me he's just a neat guy who runs a wesbite that I like.
As for my premium, a major reason I kept renewing was due to the independence of Allakhazam.com. As he has stated, it was a LLC partnership, not a mega-corporation. It had quaint qualities, like servers going haywire and quirky admins that were also active participants and had actual relationships with users. It was a nifty little corner of the internet that I could claim to be a part of. Even as it continued to grow bigger with the WoW boom, I felt proud to say that it was something I contributed to, both with posts/guides and with money. My subscrition fee was my way of saying "hey, thanks for putting all this stuff together. Here's a few bucks so maybe you can buy another server or hire another programmer."
Now that it's getting real funding and absorbing its competition, I don't see their need for my dollars anymore. I won't ask for my guides to be removed, and I won't engage in some avatar-protest silliness, but I also won't donate out of the kindness of my heart anymore.
I'm also a bit afraid of what the community will be like after it nearly doubles in size. Not that growth is a bad thing, if left stagnant it would die. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.
If premium costs get raised significantly, I won't renew. If services that by common sense should be free are instead restricted to premium solely for attracting more memberships, I won't renew. If, on the other hand, the new resources allow them to introduce tons of cool new features, maybe I will renew. If not, I'll just get a better ad-blocker and keep plugging away in the Asylum.
