Best Menial JobFollow

So college is quickly at a closing and it’s time to look for a new job. I’m looking for a decent job that doesn’t really have to pay well and I don’t really care if it’s night/day. But it CAN NOT be anything involving customers and or people. Worked at a ice cream shop (3yr) and as a painter(1) and I find myself confronted with the opportunity for a firing by way of ***** slapping a patron. I hate customers, and if at all possible want to avoid them.

My best so far looks like stock boy at a local market (nights and no customers) but I don’t know if they might ask me to run a register and that’s hell to me. Or movie theater, yeah, customers, but it’s stop and go as movies start 3rd bet is FedEx or UPS but it’s not in town and my current ride is a beast at the pump. It’s the best paying out of the 3 but I’d still lose a lot of money running all around all the time.

So, I know you people have experience in the work force and im looking for hidden opportunities that I didn’t think of. Anyone have any recommendations or fun jobs they have had in the past.

if you have something good that requires skills or education I can list mine, I didn't want the to go on forever

Easiest job I've ever had was when I worked in Master Control for a television station. I'd preload all the programming for the evening, get everyhting cued and then just make sure to press the buttons at the appropriate time. Then we automated the playing via computer so all I had to do was load and cue the tapes and the computer would play them for me. I could walk in, work for five minutes setting up tapes and then do nothing for the next six hours beyond sit in my room, watch TV and eat the pizza I ordered.

Granted, there was technically more to it than that in that I had to know what to do if there was a problem and I had to check some guages and dials now and again for the offical record but, damn, that was one cake job. I've no idea how one "breaks into" a Master Control gig though. I knew a guy who worked there who got me the job and they trained and licensed me. I doubt it works that easily if you just start sending out your résumé.

Sounds like a sweet deal but I don’t think we have any TV stations around other than news. also my résumé isn't looking so hot, all I have under my belt at 20 is ~5 years of work that I did before college at mostly other crap jobs. that and if you want to add any sort of education then 4 semesters of mostly science, nothing to helpful I don't think.

Hands down, it'd have to be a lifeguard. I did that all through high school and college and all it entails is scoping out chicks and getting a suntan. And job for job, it pays way better than flippin' burgers or messing tables.

Of course, it helps to look good in a slinky black Speedo like me. It sets off my gleaming and heavily melanoma-ed skin and frames my monstrous Alabama Black Snake.

The best job I had while I was a student was for a sweet distributor. We would have to walk up and down a picking line all day making out orders for pick'n'mix. There would always be a boxes of sweets open as you walked down the line so I spent the summer on a constant sugar high.

One of the social members of the Rugby team (she was nicknamed Posh ****, because everyone has done it once) was rumoured to have had a job manually ************ Pigs. You could try that.

A firnd of mine had one of the sweetest jobs I can think of. He was night auditor at a hotel in Vegas. Get in at 11pm or midnight, after last check-in and the desk manager's shift ends. Spend about an hour or two doing the day's books then spend the rest of the night alone, no supervision, free reign of the hotel's grounds. Usually toking up and playing mini-golf, then left around 8am.

Working Midnight shift in a 7-11 my first year of university. The job itself sucked and wasnt the safest. However there was a black guy from Jamaica who would come in after last call and order the hottest fried chicken available. That guy was f[Aliceblue][/Aliceblue]ucking nails.

I've spent the last two winters working for UPS right before Christmas. They pay double normal rates then for driver's helpers (read driver's *****). It was pretty easy work and paid well for being so damned part-time.

They seem like pretty good employers from my experience, part time or full.

I did modeling for art classes when I went to university. It paid well and was really easy.

You can't be shy though. Smiley: wink

I am with you here. I hate customers more than anything. Working a midnight shift job will probably be your best bet. That way if you have any customer interaction it will be minimal at most.

"Customer Service" is a skill that all kinds of jobs require nowadays, even if the so-called customers happen to be your co-workers. If it's a true issue for you, then the only job I can suggest is: Allakhazam Admin.

That was a kickass job. I did the same for a few summers (had my NLS and Red Cross instructor certs).
Also, during the rest of the year, I would DJ weekends to pay the bills. That job was also nails.

My friend works as a security guard. He always picks up the 11pm-7am shift. He loves it. It is usually very quiet during that time. He brings his portable DVD player or his books to pass the time. Every hour he has to walk around the comlplex, which takes about 5 minutes. He makes between $10-12 an hour. Can't get much easier than that.

I did hair modeling for one season. Easy money, but you have to be okay with walking the runway with bulbs going off. First time, I got blinded and almost walked off the strip. After that summer though, my hair was so fried from all the stuff that was done to it. I had to cut off over 18 inches. Smiley: cry

I worked as a farm hand for a neighbor one summer. You get to work outside all day, and you don't have to worry about people. Well, I had to deal with my boss and his family, but they were cool and his two daughters were very cute. It's not easy work, but you don't need much of a background to do it. Just be willing to get your hands dirty, (not to mention some **** on the boots).

I worked for a painting contractor through most of college, which was pretty rough work. The last few years, however, I became the company specialist for Faux Finishing- you know, making cheap pine look like marble, etc. It was much more fun, and I rarely had to deal with people that much.

I know you mentioned painting before, and it sounds like you don't want to do it again (unless I misunderstood), but you can make a lot of money and have a very flexible schedule doing Faux. It's not that hard, and if you already know how to paint, it'd be a snap for you to learn from books.

Actually, go out and be a volunteer firefighter. Get certified and everything, and then do what my friend did. He worked fire-watch for a industrial company. Only a firefighter can do that. Same thing as a security guard, except with fire. Hourly walks, read a book, bring your laptop, whatever. Just don't sleep.

Depending on the size of the town you live in, you may want to check with a temp agency. They do all the work of finding you a job, and you can always tell them to keep you in consideration for anything else that opens up during the summer. They will work hard at trying to find you the right job, because they don't make money unless you are working.

The pay tends to not be that great, but you mentioned that it wasn't one of your needs.

Factories are another option because they are always looking for extra help in the summer since so many people go on vacation at that time.

Nice list of jobs, some I'm not qualified for unfortunately. My white man bush fro take me out of modeling as geling it is the only real option. Speedo = no, but I do have some sweet pairs of trunks. I don't know if they make you wear the flat lifeguard red though, I'd be so in if I could go in my Hawaiian print.

As for security guard, that’s something I haven't thought of before. there are some buildings around here that hire them as my step dad did that for a few months. Do you need to have any particular skills / education?

for clarification, I don't mind people that much. working with people is nice and lots of fun. working for people (customers, as in taking care of their needs) is what I can't stand as they drive me crazy.

And Gladestrider the Mundane, I never want to do painting again, I worked with tuition painters for my brother and it sucked fucking balls. I did house to house flyers and sales as well as painting and I’ll never do it again. I visited over 300 houses and only one sale. that and I sucked at painting, I got "downsized" after it went bankrupt and they screwed my brother out of about 2 grand.

All of my buddies who did lifeguard duty got to wear whatever they wanted. It probably depends on the facility. I know my school's lifeguards either wore black or red. But my buddy was wearing whatever the hell, board shorts and the like, when i went and saw him down in West Palm.

I'm currently in college and I do Emachines tech support. I think any call center is a pretty sweet set up with very low work and responsibility.
