Okay, I don't normally go after the grammar, but this one I've seen about a half dozen times in the last couple days and it's driving me nuts.

WOULD HAVE. Not "would of." Same goes for COULD HAVE and SHOULD HAVE.

All right, I'm done now.

I'd have to go back. I lived in Houston as a kid and I have fond memories of it, except for the snakes.
/shudder

I have friends that just moved to Austin, and they love it.

I live in California. Supposed to be a great, wonderful, state. Parts of it are. However, much of south-eastern California is the most desolate land I've ever seen. Drive east of San Diego on I-8 and you'll see sand dunes. You know, like you could film Lawrence of Arabia there. You really only get the benefit of the ocean if you are within maybe 10-40 miles of the ocean (you also need to be at relatively low altitude - that ocean breeze doesn't really climb well). Also, it is insanely expensive to live here. Sure, in principle I have loads of value in my house and I could sell and buy elsewhere and have no morgage, but all my family and friends are here.

Like every state, some places in Texas are probably great. I don't know about Texas, but I know places in New Mexico and Arizona with weather that I would personally prefer over my house (in northern LA). And the housing there is like half the cost (although jobs are a bit less financially rewarding...but it's a better deal overall).

Yeah. But in defense of Southern California, you have to drive for about an hour East on I-8 before you get there. Past El Cajon. Past Lakeside. Past Alpine. Then through some more mountains. Then you'll see some serious desert. And honestly? In most states, if you drive an hour in a straight line, you'll be in another state. Heck. In most parts of the world, you'll be in another country...

i just have to add my little rant to this...

there - "The plate is over there." (a place, directive)
their - "It is their plate." (possive, showing possession)
they're - "They're angry that you took the plate." (contraction of they are)

now i know my spelling might not be all correct, but those three words ARE. ^.^b

texas isn't too bad. denton is awesome, houston isn't, and conroe is "so-so."
