Diplomatic Immunity!

[Saath African Accent]

Everyone driving into central London during the daytime pays a £5 congestion charge.

Well, almost everyone.

Quote:
US diplomatic staff in London have run up unpaid congestion charge fees of £271,000 in the past six months, new figures have revealed.

The US embassy is at number one on the list for fees not paid in the past six months.

A spokesman for TfL (Transport for London) said: "We are continuing to seek payment for any outstanding debts from embassies refusing to pay.

"Last month the United Arab Emirates embassy accepted the principle and have joined the many other embassies who have agreed this is a legitimate change.

"This is not a tax, it's a charge for a service and gives no privileges to any VIPs, so we do not see why diplomats should be exempt.

So that's half a million bucks in 6 months. I wonder if foreign diplomats in DC have to pay fees and fines?

***** diplomats. They can, and do, get out of any and everything. In the meantime, if the District of Columbia could have appended a rubber bungee to my purse upon my move, I'm sure they would have done so. After I moved, I was mailed three tickets, totalling about $200. In the time that I lived there, any diplomat's kid I knew would just tear their tickets up and laugh.

Bastards.

Yeah. I like it, too. Smiley: inlove

They had a camera on an overpass (which I don't remember seeing a sign for, and I went back and forth every day twice during my regular commute) and it clocked me at 15 miles over the speed limit twice (never saw a sign for that, either, and I was still on the 395 freeway and within speed limits for that). The third time, the fine doubled.

The District is so starved for income. Smiley: frown I could have ignored it, since I'm not headed back anytime soon, but what can I say? I'm a decent citizen and a chump.

You have to pay $10 to drive into central London?

Time for another tea-party! Throw all your cars into the Thames -- that'll show your king what-for.

I see the crime rate rising in London as people get the train in and then just steal cars inside the limits to avoid paying. I know I would. If I could drive.

Yep. Which is why most folks use public transport, or park in Outer London (Yes, car parking prices rose there slightly) and use the Tube.

Works fine for me. I drive there every week or so for meetings and park at a main station.

For the gubberment meetings where I get a space allocated at one of the main offices or palaces, I drive into Westminster, but the difference in traffic since they introduced the charge is amazing.

That would just be silly. We're going to storm the American Embassy and liberate all the philipino lady-boys hidden under the diplomats' desks! YAY!

Diplomats are immune from paying taxes. The CG is a tax, so it doesnt apply to diplomats, or to embassies.

Around half of all the embassies in London dont pay the Congestion Charge. And those that do, do it "voluntarily".

Ken Livingstone (Mayor of London) just wants to gain some popularity by picking on nasty Americans.

A) As stated above, it's a tax.
B) It serves you rat bastards right for the MILLIONS in unpaid parking tickets of foreign ambassadors in new york.
-mind you, we are evading a tax that doesnt apply to us. YOU are breaking the parking laws.

Pay up ye ****** brits. Then we'll talk.

It's been legally defined as a service charge, not a tax.

We're too busy saving the motherfuc[Aqua][/Aqua]king day, yeah, to be worried about some silly tax or service charge. Consider it a small payback for saving your **** from Germany.

There should be a Godwin's type rule for using WW II in any argument concerning America Vs. EU, unless of course the discussion is actually about WWII.

Well, thats what Ken said. But practically, it's a tax. The "service" is being allowed in central london.

But whatever it is, I agree its only decent courtesy America's embassy should pay it.

By letting them think they won WWII, we've helped their self-confidence tremendously.

Ungrateful bastards...
