Explaining EQFollow

#1 Apr 29 2006 at 3:23 PM Rating: Excellent
I was trying to explain EQ to a guy I work with who has never done any on-line gaming. But, trying to explain just how massively complex EQ is not an easy accomplishment. It became quickly apparent that I was failing in my attempt to communicate that fact. I decided that the best way to explain would be to find a bunch of movies and show him exactly what I was talking about.

I did a google search and found some movies from Vision, Haven Light, and Mirage. It seems like I’m missing a lot of the movies I used to see. Maybe the guilds and their websites are no longer around.

Anyone know where I can find some more EQ movies?

The CPU on my time machine crashed, and sadly I can't find anyone who can fix it.

I chose EQ because it's the only MMORPG I played long enough to see the higher raid type levels of the game. I played a few others but never got far enough to see any of the good raid stuff.

Things are great!

I actually just quit WoW a few weeks back. Honestly I think I'm done with MMO's, never thought I'd see the day but it happened. I'm really sick of grinding and of sitting in front of the computer for hours on end with nothing to show for it years later. Smiley: lol

I'm thinking of picking up BF2 and just mess around in that when I get bored.

Yikes, that game is addicting. Soloing isnt THAT fun though, 100% teamwork game so if you're looking to play it you should find a companion.

I never picked up the BF games, but I get a kick out of America's Army. Not too shabby for a free download, and makes a good distraction from EQ.

---------------------------------------------------------

i wouldnt try to convince a total new player to mmos to start with EQ.

unless he has a OCD personality, he will hate mmo,s within a very short time without ever giving them a fair shot.

there is nothing left in EQ for new players except an endless XP grind to get to the top so you can find people to play with. and even then, the top guilds wont invite him unless he is already keyed for what ever expansion they did last, and already has his epic.....which, i might point out, he will never get because the smaller or medium sized guilds are all but gone.

all the lowbies in EQ are somones twink with dragon gear who just want to solo, not share xp.

you will destroy online gaming for him before he even gives it a fair shot. start him off with something simple, like WoW, if he finds it not challenging enough, move on to SWG, DAOC, or EQ2.

there is nothing left in EQ but top end powergaming. every thing else is a video wasteland. trhe result of constantly upping the anti to keep the top happy. noting left at the bottom. no new players. no low level game. self destruction. the ineviatable result of catering to the top end crowd.

While what shadowrelm says is mostly just not true, I would still advise newer players to start with something like EQ2.
In EQ1, there are real newbies, there are plenty of low- or mid-level groups and guilds, there is plenty for people to do. With Platinum and Titanium packs they can get most of the expansions at once. The only problem is that the game and graphics engines are dated and heavily patched together, so if they're not used to that the looks might be off-putting. Show em EQ2; it's pretty and flashy to keep their attention.

edited for clarification

I like BF2... when it works. Smiley: mad

The game has so many crash bugs it's amazing. It tends to take me at least 15 minutes to get into a working game.
