Sure dismantle the welfare state and suddenly 90% + would be in favor of more open borders. Unfortunately, America would sink to Europeans socialist welfare state standards. 11 million people stealing education (making everyone else's education lower quality), stealing welfare benefits (making everyone else poorer with less money), and clogging up the health care system (making everyone else's health care lower quality), is a problem. It's unaffordable. And if you *still* think we should subsidize illegal aliens why not others too? If good fences make good neighbors big government makes neighbors enemies.

Everyone has already seen the true Mexican flag colors and now knows the rest is posturing. What the hell do they need to be "legal" residents for? One reason and one reason only, to loot the treasury and steal/mooch off the citizenry. To claim they want to pay taxes or pay more in taxes than they'll take benefits from the pocketbooks of others is laughable. Especially when the organizer leaders are far left soviet style wannabee socialists. Plus they've cut in line in front of those who have gone through the proper legal channels. If you cut in line you should go to the back of the line.

Go back to Mexico and petition for Mexico to be annexed as the 51st State. Or carry signs calling for Mexico to secede to the Union (picture of Mexico with a U.S. Flag over the country). Then maybe we can work something out.

Actually, unless the immigrants brought their existing children over with them, the bulk of the children of illegal immigrants have birthright citizenship and therefore are not "stealing" anything.

As an aside, illegal immigrants who use fraudulent Social Security numbers pay into the system via payroll taxes but are not eligible to receive benefits. According to the New York Times:

As the debate over Social Security heats up, the estimated seven million or so illegal immigrant workers in the United States are now providing the system with a subsidy of as much as $7 billion a year.

While it has been evident for years that illegal immigrants pay a variety of taxes, the extent of their contributions to Social Security is striking: the money added up to about 10 percent of last year's surplus - the difference between what the system currently receives in payroll taxes and what it doles out in pension benefits. Moreover, the money paid by illegal workers and their employers is factored into all the Social Security Administration's projections.

I don't know if you really will. On the retail angle, businesses had more than enough warning to staff with folks who'd be around. It'd be more telling to hang around the bank lobby after-hours and see if the cleaning staff shows up.

For what it's worth, we're pretty much closed down labor-wise today but, luckily, it's a shi[Aliceblue][/Aliceblue]tty wet day out there anyway.

The children of immigrants, legal or illegal, are citizens too. I fail to see your arguement.
