As far as the OP, there are all kind of Latinos, and not all feel the same pull to their Mother Country. For some illegal children or children born by illegals in this country, the United States is all they have ever known, and the thought that they may be deported for something they had no control over is a sobering one. However, because of these same circumstances, they have grown up in a home where Spanish was and continues to be their primary language.
I imagine that the same delight I get from a translation of "O Holy Night" come Christmas (one of my favorite carols in English) is the same warm fuzzy they would get from a cross-cultural version of their anthem that reflects the same cultural collision they have lived with and tried to reconcile all their life.

People that colonized the US were working-class folk fleeing religous persecution or poverty. The Spaniards that came to South America were overwhelmingly of the monied gentry, and they sure as hell couldn't ***** a maid or send her for drinks if they stuck her in the desert. Our 'distribution' was more like that of blacks in the U.S., except we were already there and didn't need to be shipped over.
