Isn't banning the pledge because of God, removing prayer, and other such things prohibiting the free exercise? The very fact that these are public places should guaranty that freedom.

Not seen much of any public schools in a while?

What you aren't allowed to do is have the school do organized prayers, since you would be respecting a particular form establishment of religion which practices such random prayer. You are allowed to simply start up praying any time throughout the day if you wanted to I imagine.

They're acknowledging apathy or a lack of education on the subject.

And, hey, let's be honest. A very small part of the country has enough political knowledge of all the going-on's to be informed enough to give a sound opinion.

Still, in a democracy such as ours, the public must make an attempt at sound decisions, hence the polls' validity. Keep in mind they're public opinion polls, and not accurate representations of the best course of action.
