Actually wouldn't those white kids have more access to normal society? I don't usually hang out in areas where gang activity goes on. So yeah ... those black gangsters pose less of a threat to me then some rich white kids who I could be associating with on a regular basis.

Then why set bail at all? If they can post bail for 400k then they can certainly hop a flight for cheaper, or even charter a flight.
Just have them surrender passports and give them home arrest until the trial. Maybe an ankle bacelet thing. Asking them to post bail , even at 400k, seems like a small and silly thing for the people involved.

Very true. Isn't bail placed with some reason too? Clearly these kids, and their families, could afford such a bail if not come close to it. They would at least be able to get a bail bond with the property they own as collateral. I'm trying to picture the poor, ghetto thug come up with more than 10k.

You set bail to ensure attendance. They post as a promise to attend. I'm thinking it has to do first of all, with the two distinct populations being addressed. In this case it seems like the kid's will be found not guilty and they have a lot more to loose by not showing up. If you can be released on your own recognizance in lieu of bail.
The article does mention the practice of judges setting prohibitive bails to prevent people from leaving the country and the unconstitutionality thereof, but still.

Its the alleged rape of a gold digging ghetto bunny with no corroberating witnesses and a likely iron-clad alibi for one of the men she "100% certainty" identified. $400k is grossly out of line.

This number based solely on the colour of their skin. And here I thought lady justice was colour blind. I've lived just outside of raliegh, went to middle school at daniels (feeder for broughton high) and during my year there I was jumped by 4 blacks over a basketball game. When someone from the staff finally passed by they were beginning to tear into me; of course I got my shots in. Guess what we both got the exact same amount of time in in-school. And you yuppies that talk all this equality but have never been around those types of blacks that will lynch you if you blink the wrong way have really no understanding of the kind of hatred between the two races.
