Background: My dad has Merkel Cell cancer, is on a relapse which is always fatal, and he's been on the relapse for about a year and a half now, which is already a year longer than they initially gave him. But that's not the point of this post.

At first it started out only slightly insane. She'd send emails saying that she was sending mystical power over to heal him. OK, pagany stuff, whatever. She's trying to help.

It soon got worse though, next she started sending angels over to watch over him when he was taking chemotherapy. I don't know about you, but that creeps me the fu[/cyan]ck out. But still, whatever.

Then she started astrally projecting and watching over him when he was going to bed. Even more creepy! But it gets worse. Her astral projection kick got stranger and stranger. Next, she apparently astrally projected up to Jesus, who told her that my dad wasn't praying enough to get well. Not exactly an encouraging thing to say to someone dying of cancer, eh?

She started sending books about yoga and meditation and talking to angels and miracle cures though the magic of snake oil, which I think my dad read the first one, but then ignored the rest. I hope, at least.

My mom, during all this, is getting more and more insanely pissed off, but she graduated from the Passive Aggressive School of Thought, so she never actually writes to my aunt that she's fu[/red]cking nuts and she should stop sending this bullsh[/blue]it over. Even if she is ******* insane, she's still my dad's sister.

So, the latest development is that she's sending magical "dolphin energy" astrally to heal him. I don't know whether to laugh or go get a baseball bat. Seriously.

My grandparents are strict Calvinists, so I'm assuming this is all just some sort of outlet of Victorian style repression, but still, goddamn.

Sorry to hear that Danalog...it sucks to deal with someone who is trying to be nice and helpful when you just want to tell them to go to hell. Have they considered just deleting her emails unread?

Dolphins got mad energy yo.

Sucks about your pappy. My Grammy is in a similar situation. Luckily the majority of my relatives are all to drunk or stoned to get too crazy.

Sorry you have to put up with the crazies. I think there is one in every family. I feel your pain, having worked in a barnes and noble during college in ******* insane prescott, AZ, home of 50% fundie christians and 50% wacked out zany dolphin energy projectors. Sometimes they would have near fistfights in the store.

Could she still be reading without being logged in? Don't need to be logged in to read.

Doubt it.

And you know, if so... who cares?

Ya she is crazy...the only way to get the dolphin energy is to eat it with your tuna. Nothing else works.

Mail her the link to that one "how to have sex with dolphins" site. There's only one way to extract pure dolphin essence...

Sorry to hear about your dad though.

Sorry to hear about your dad and your aunt. Hard times are quite enough to deal with when people are sane.

Has she tried magnet therapy or pyramid power yet? There seem to be a few areas of insanity yet to delve into here.

Sorry to hear about your father Dana and very sorry to hear about the outside stress caused by your aunt.

Tell your aunt that you heard from the Scientologists and her energy is blocking their communications to L. Ron Hubbard's mothership and she needs to stop.

Sorry to hear about your father, Dana. I've never heard of Merkel cell cancer, but given what Merkel cells are, that sounds particularly nasty.

Best wishes for you and yours.

(no comments on the aunt...I have too many wacky relatives to have any room to speak)

Maybe she's just trying to annoy your father to point that he'll actually embrace death. You should be thanking her.

Consider briefly:

What if she's right? What if she's wrong? What are the costs involved in a decisive action in this matter in each of the possible scenarios?

It's obvious that you should take no action against your loony aunt. The benefit of doing so is such a marginally small one as to be nonexistant. Most likely, anything you do to try to get her to stop won't work anyway. All it will do is further traumatize her already fragile grip on reality.

I'm sure that lashing out would feel GREAT right now, but I bet you can find someone who isn't family and who doesn't care about your father to bash.
