Does the IRS not have an online tax submission form.

They took away Telefile, the simple way to file a 1040EZ by punching in amounts on your phone.

They have all these links on how to E-File!!! on the www.irs.gov website, but they all eventually point you to 3rd party private tax websites, some of which are free and some of which charge. Great. Smiley: rolleyes

All of which, however, hawk your personal information to the highest bidders.

Yeah, I decided to just print out the PDF forms and mail 'em the old fashion way.

The postage is going to be almost as much as my payment. $6.27 to Fed and $2.55 to State.

I always manage to get boned by the state. Getting about $350 back from the Feds but I owe Blagojevich half that. Smiley: mad

Then again, I always take as many deductions as possible knowing I'll get a small return. I'd rather have my cash in pocket now than letting the government hold on to it interest-free for a year until I can ask for it back.

Although if the cash is in your pocket, it's doing you no good. You're not taking advantage of opportunity cost by earning interest. And if that's the case, might as well let the Gov get a cheap loan...think of it as charity, Democrat style.

I've never lived in a state where you have to file state income tax forms as well. If I did I think I would go insane.

The last time I used on-line filing, it never actually went through. I didn't find out till the next year's taxes came up, then I ended up having to file for 2 years and pay late fees.

Now, I have an accountant, and my taxes were filed 3 months ago.

Slackers!

CA sends out a filled out 1040 that you just have to sign and send back in. Which would be freakin awesome if they didn't try to rip me off in the process. Bastards ****** up their own form and tried to cheat me of $500. Smiley: mad

I used Turbotax as a stand-alone product ten years ago - filled in the information, printed the forms, mailed 'em in. Worked out okay.

When I moved from FL to MD I started using the Telefile system. That was kind of neat, too; never a problem.

In recent years I've no longer qualified for the 1040EZ form (yay) so I've gone back to using the online version of Turbotax. I spend an hour or so filling out the data, double check everything at the end, then submit everything electronically. Refunds come in via direct deposit, payments go out via wire transfer from my bank. Numbers shift around, bits change position, and voila - we're done.

As good as online Turbotax has been to me I think I'm going to wind up using a real accountant soon; it's getting more complicated than I feel like dealing with.
