The Tax Man ComethFollow

Well, tomorrow is the last day.

All of my work is done and submitted. Thankfully, I had moving expenses and claimed the former Soviet Union as dependants, so I get $.11 and a gum wrapper back since I didn't choose to have that go towards next year's expense.

I would have been done back in January but one of my 2 W2's was slow to make its way to me. When it did arrive, my entusism for getting the task out of the way had faded to a pale wisp of its former self and so I found myself visiting Free plug, I've been using them several consecutive years on April 16th.

Good thing I'm poor or it might actually take time to do my taxes. <15 minutes in, out and done. And there was almost no time involved in doing my taxes either. Ba da ding!

Yes taxes. Thankfully the man only got 32 bucks from me this year.

I've forgot to file for my state returns for the 2nd consecutive year in a row now. First time around, I owed them money (probably about 40-50$). This time around, they owed me 60$.

Funny thing about taxes, they can charge me interest out the *** for what I owe. But what they owe me stays the same.

God bless Amerika

Since it has that Shadowrelm feeling to this post....

$4500 back and this is after my creative tax guy told me to adjust my status from M2 to M5. This guy is good.

I have actually heard that getting money back from Uncle Sam is bad in the long run. Sure you get money back now but what you did was pretty much give him an interest free loan for a year. You could have had that money in your savings account actually earning yourself more money.

Better yet the best is to owe Uncle Sam up to $999. You borrowed from him interest free and penalty free for a year. Most people aren't brave enough to intentionally go there though.

Friend of mine pays his taxes about every two years...NOT a good thing in my opinion, but it seems to work for him. I'm just suprised the government never seems to notice...

TheDraaken, you are absolutly correct, but in my particular case, it's not that I am improperly adjusting my taxes so much as this guy knows every single hole and break I qualify for. I could up my deductions, but I can't count on what he can find for me to claim each year, so M5 is what he recommended for us.

It worked.

Had my taxes done months ago and got over $6,000 back. Smiley: grin

And before anyone says anything about redoing our exemptions to get more money back throughout the year, my husband prefers it this way. It's cleaner and simpler this way until he retires from the military, we move off base housing and buy our own home. When we have a mortgage, I'll be insisting that we claim something more than Married and 0 on our W-4's.
