...it wouldn't hurt more than it's done

The Divinyls were so under-rated. But that's neither here nor there towards my actual topic. A poll born of pure curiousity over gun ownership.
Which best describes your condition of gun ownership?
I own multiple firearms of various types:15 (20.8%)
I own one or more handguns:2 (2.8%)
I own one or more rifles/shotguns:9 (12.5%)
I used to own one or more firearms but have gotten rid of them:1 (1.4%)
I do not own any firearms but have fired them before:32 (44.4%)
I have never owned nor operated a firearm:13 (18.1%)
Total:72
Feel free to expound on your firearm collection, thoughts, opinions, etc. I don't have an agenda here, I just thought it'd be interesting to find out.

Do bows count? I own an explodeing arrow and a "shotgun" flechette arrow, to go with my PSE 55 lb takedown recurve. I want to upgrade to a competition 30 pound aluminum model some day, as this 55 pound bow really obliterates targets, but that's a project for another year I think

Does military service count? I really have nothing against gun ownership, but I'm not compelled to own any.

Planning on shooting down some helicopters?

I personally do not own any guns, however, my father owns many hunting rifles/shotguns. They usually hunt every year, kill a Moooooooose or something, hence those old pics(yeah that was my brother). Although I don't ever engage with that particular activity, it seems relatively safe and they have a lot of fun so it seems ok. I honestly do not think the current gun laws and restrictions have anything to do with the amount of murders by firearms, simply because in Canada "We luvvvz are guns, luuuvzz are guns!" and yet we have far fewer gun related incidents.

I'm not going to really get into it. Just go watch Bowling for Columbine.

I'm not familiar with all the specifics of gun "ownership" in the context of military or police settings.

Assume "own a gun" to include any scenario where there is a firearm in your constant possession while in a private residence. If you have to leave your gun at the office, as it were, then just say you've operated.

I think that you need to further specify, the reason being that I know that my cousin is required to carry a firearm on his person at all times, even when on leave (Navy Seal).

If he takes it home at night, he "owns".

Sooner or later you people will have to take the phrase "best describes your condition" and work in some independant thought on your own Smiley: tongue

My father owned many guns. He liked to collect handguns and rifles, some of which are restricted in Canada. He had a small ******* of weapons in our family home when he died 8 years ago. Now we have no idea what to do with these bloody things.

Yay!

I've kicked around the idea of getting one a time or two before. I guess I'm still on the fence.

I own a deer rifle from when I used to hunt. My father bought me a 12 gauge shotgun when I was 15 for pheasant hunting. I also have several that I don't use but hang on to for sentimental value. I have my grandfather's (on my dad's side) shotgun from when he was a kid (single barrel), and I have a .22 rifle that my grandfather (on my mom's side) got from his troops when he finished his last tour of Vietnam.

I enjoy going out for target practice now and then, but I don't really hunt much any more and if someone breaks into my house they can have whatever they want as long as they leave my family alone.

My grandfather is an avid hunter and ownes many fancy rifles, but I grew up in a house that didn't have any. I was outright scared of them, like, to the point of not even wanting to hold one.

Basic training fixed that, heh. I found out I am actually a really good shot, and I loved going to the firing range. I would like to go again in a civillian setting because I have never shot anything but an M16 and I am curious about other things. My husband wants a handgun, but I am really against having one in the house. I see no point, and I am afraid of children finding it, even with extra precautions.

I suppose I am a weird southerner.

Not much of a hunter, trying to ease into it though.

Have a 12 gauge shotgun that was my grandfather's (dad's side) and a .22 rifle my father gave me.

Purchased a .45 handgun for target practice and home protection a few years back, haven't shot it in a while... feeling the need for some ballistic therapy actually.

I own a 20 gauge, not at the house right now, since I don't have room for a gun safe.

I'm also getting a .22 to keep at home so I can shoot all of the little critters that live on my property. I have this family of gophers, who's squatting time has run out.

What? It's legal according to Gbaji.

I do not yet own a gun but I will be purchasing one for home defense and recreational shooting some time in the near future. Most likely a Beretta M9 or similar.

I used to do skeet shooting and that was a blast especially when I could hit more than half the skeets. My Uncle has a 125ish lb pull crossbow and a 70ish lb pull compound. I havn't been able to fire either in a long time because he no longer lives out in the country. I can see why you would want a smaller pull bow for competition shooting and a 50 or 70 becomes tiresome after a target practice session, especially if it isn't compound.

It is nice to get out to the range once and a while and plink away at a few targets. For those of you who haven't done it before I'd recomend a nice .22 and some tin cans. There are a fair few outdoor shooting ranges scattered around the south, you'd be suprised I think where you could find one.

Just because you're a card-carying liberal doesn't mean you can't go out and blast the hell out of somthing every once and a while. You won't catch teh pubbie.

Never owned a gun, never felt a need to. I've heard myriad of reasons why I should from some folks in my family that own them, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with something like that in my home. I've been advised to buy pepper spray to keep in my purse for me because I work in an "urban" (read:gang) area, but I'm worried I'd just end up shooting it in my face while looking for lipstick.

Hmm, I wonder why gun control people accuse gun owners of being unbalanced, drug crazed whackjobs?

12 gauge combat shotgun all black finish with pistol grip which hurts like hell to fire with anything heavier then No.6 load

Late Vietnam SKS assault rifle heavily modified with 500yrd scope with light up reticle, 30 round mags, bi-pod, and pistol grip style synthetic stock.

Late WWII .308 mass production model of a HK G3. The only gun I can't shoot without earplugs. The concussion feels like a nice hit to the chest if your about 10 feet behind it. 7.62X51's are a pretty big bullet.

I plan on getting a few hand guns in the next few years, and trying to find a more powerful rifle.

E-bay!

I've never owned a gun & can't imagine I ever will, though I've shot a 22 before. I think I would enjoy skeet shooting, or other target practice type shooting. I wasn't too bad a shot with my brothers' bb guns.

As far as my opinion of personal ownership of guns goes, I have no problem with hunting rifles used for hunting. I have yet to hear people advocate owning guns for personal protection that didn't sound more than a little hysterical and/or paranoid.
