I just came back from shopping for some new clothes for me to sport in Boston. If there's one thing I learned it's that you never realize how much weight you gained until you stare into a full length mirror.

Smiley: cry

I gazed into the mirror as I tried on my new pants and the first thing that came out of my mouth was, "You are one fat b[Black][/Black]itch!"

Normally I'd wear a 36 waist. They were feeling tighter, but I didn't think I looked like that! I had to opt for a 38 to feel comfortable. The waist isn't really bothering me, but how far my belly is sticking out is.

I want to see if I could pull a 1 month miracle out of my **** to get rid of this. I'm thinking drugs. Smiley: laugh

Someone recommend me a diet pill!

Yes, along with the diet pill will be an actual change in eating habbits. The pill will just speed up the process. No, crack/clorox/bleach are not acceptable anwsers. No, Eldy, I'm not sending you nudes.

if it makes you feel better almost all of us have winter weight. I put on a teeshirt this morning and opted for a sweater instead when I noticed that my arms needed just a bit more toning. Yardwork ftw this weekend. Btw it was 70 here today woohoo!

Roo's challenge.

Hopefully that helps.

Edit- umm, actually that isn't the thread I thought. I mean, I was looking for the one where that Asian physical trainer had all those tips... hold on.

I have lost so much weight that I almost need to buy new pants. Gone from fitting a 36 comfortably to needing a belt to hold up a pair of 34's. I am a scrawny giant!

I usually use one of those handy Height/Weight/BodyType Charts. You know the type, with the weights, and the Heights and the underweight/normal/overweight/Obese body types shaded areas.

They are pretty usefull to find one statistic if you know 2 others. For instance I found my weight on the chart, then my body type, then followed the line up to find out I'm almost 8 foot tall!

Without that chart I would have had to bend over to use some sort of measuring tape, and I haven't been able to bend over in years. It really is a time saver.

Wait until you turn 30. Once upon a time, I shrugged off a double-loaded gyro with an extra large order of breaded mushrooms and ranch dressing. Now I can gain two pounds just from gargling my Listerine in the morning.

Because nothing says "medical credibility" like MS Comic font, I used this calculator to tell me I'm A-Ok. Even the 'lower range' charts on the bottom have me skating the edge of the scale at 6'1" and 180lbs. Size 34 or 36 depending on the particular pair of pants.

If you want to go the dangerous route anything with ephedra as the main ingredient will greatly speed up weight loss and reduce appitite...of course it may also kill you. When I was younger and foolish I lost 70 pounds in about six months using it. Replaced 2 meals a day with liquid meal/protien shakes, mixed in some light running and weight lifting. I was suprised at how effective it was. Of course I also found myself dizzy when standing up to fast for the last few weeks.

The safer route would be L-tyrosine and maybe a little 5-htp. Both are precusors to hormones that the body naturaly creates. 5-htp helps control appitite by eliminating one of the main things your body is in search of when eating, L-tyrosine will give you a boost to drive and energy making it a lot easier to get yourself to work out. 1000 mg of L-tyrosine space out throughout the day (one at breakfast, the other at the halfway point of your day) 500 mg at a time and 500 5-htp in the morning before breakfast is what I recommend. Both of these are dirt cheap and can be picked up at any vitamin shop or ordered online.

Well I'm still on track with what I said in Roo's thread.

I still plan on starting tomorrow.

I have always leaned towards being a bit pudgy, but still never worried about what I ate. In the last few years, a knee injury combined with stress eating during various deployments has put me into a weight category I don't want to be in. Very depressing.

I was really sucessful at losing 40 pounds about a year and a half ago in a very short time just by dieting. I drank tons of water, put nothing questionable in my mouth, and ate far smaller portions. I didn't really exercize because of my knees and I hate dealing with the swimming pool. I never did try any diet pills, I would be somewhat curious about them too.

My advice is never to touch the things. They all have pretty massive long term side effects because at heart there all just stimulants for the most part. Not to mention you'll probably gain the wieght back unless you've got some serious discapline due to your metabolism going back to what it used to be. The new fat blockers may have promise, but those are far too new for me to even consider...not that I need to lose a massive amount of weight at the moment.

Assuming you will follow product directions and taking them in moderation...this statement is pretty false.

Yes you have to be careful, but for the most part, they work pretty well to jump start your weight loss.

I used HotRoxx last year with great results. It is a thermogenic fat burner. It helped me to maintain a loss of approximatley 1% body fat per week. Yes, I had to work my *** off at the gym. The pills just helped me to get through the plateau period that you'll run into if you stick with it long enough.

Yes, I gained all of the weight back and then some after I stopped working out. I blame it on all of the fast food, rather than the diet pills.

I'd love to be 20 lbs lighter for Boston, but a lot of what I'm trying to do is just change my mentality from what it was in my 20s: namely, I can't eat crap and sit around all day without wearing bigger pants. It's not just a diet, it's a lifestyle change, and as such, it's not so much a certain dress size that I'm angling for, but a feeling of overall well-being and a decent self-image.

If it's a stimulant it's generaly bad for your heart and has cumlitive effects. Most of them also raise blood pressure, not all but the most effective ones do.

I completely agree with you that they work, but I still think if you need a little push the safe route I recommended is the way to go. Safe, completely side effect free, cheap and unless you have some finacial issues there's no reason to ever stop taking them. There was actually a study involving rats that suggests the 5-htp may extend your lifespan.
