My redneck neighbors...Follow

#1 Apr 06 2006 at 3:34 PM Rating: Decent
...just started a brush fire that nearly made its way over into my yard. Thanks to the heroics of an old lady with a rake, the pine trees along the property line are still intact.

Unfortunately, all the shrubs that kept me from constantly seeing their trashy yard are now gone. Smiley: motz

They do when they're cut down with a herring.

Sounds like they were sending you a signal that your appearance was unsightly, and they felt the need to help you trim your bush

They were their bushes but the only things keeping me from seeing the rest of the crap in their yard.

Sounds like it's time for a higher fence.

If their yard is unsightly you can call the police. Most towns/counties/cities/etc have ordinances on the cleanliness of yards since trashy yards can house animals, germs, etc that can pose a public threat, you might have some sway.

I know where I live if you even have your trash cans out for more than 24 hours you can be fined a few hundred dollars. It might give the yokels a reason to clean up their yard.

Or you can be a man and actually go over and discuss it rationally. The only thing worse than loud/messy neighbors are the neighbors who have a problem but rather than resolving it themselves they have to immediately get the police or city/county officials involved in it. Most reasonable people would probably be open to any suggestions to resolve a problem if approached correctly. If all the sudden the cops start showing up at their door and that's the first time they hear of it the only result is pissed off neighbors. How do you think the fued between the Hatfields and McCoys got started?

Rational discussion with people who cut their grass by setting fire to it. I'm sure that would work swimmingly ;)

He didn't say they were cutting their grass that way. I'm making assumptions here, but I would guess they were raking up old leaves and brush and whatnot accumulated over the winter and burning it rather than bagging it. Not necessarily unreasonable, though depending on city/county ordinances it may be illegal or at least something you need a permit for.
That doesn't make them unreasonable.

But if the dad answers the door nekkid with a shotgun and a hotdog hanging out of his ***, that may be time to skip the conversation and just call the cops.

If he opens the door nekkid with a shotgun and a hot dog hanging out his ***, then I wanna party that guy.

What they were doing was innocent enough, but it almost got away from them. Unfortunately, the crap they burned up looked better than the crap on the other side of it. Smiley: laugh

Where I used to see shrubs, I now see boat, box truck, kiddie car, doghouse, lawn mower, and various unidentified pieces of junk.

In this day and age you can't even walk on someone's lawn without getting shot. I'd call the police too if it was that big of an issue. You never know when some nutcase is going to snap.

That's why you call them or come over, but also have a letter with bullets documenting the discussion in writing. CYA, n00bs.

If you go over there and make a stink about it and they don't do anything, then no matter what neighbor calls the cops later, you end up being the target for their retaliation, forever, and ever, and ever. Every man is right in his own eyes. If he is inconsiderate enough to trash his yard in the first place then why in the world would he give a fuc[Coral][/Coral]k what you think about it?

If what they are doing is illegal then just call the cops, It's not like the cops are gonna go over beating them with billy clubs and handing out $1000 fines. They will always get a chance to correct the issue before any legal action is taken. Think of the cops as your anonymous messenger, plus then you have the action you took documented for any issues you encounter in the future.
