I have an expensive porcelain habitFollow

#1 Mar 30 2006 at 12:31 PM Rating: Decent
I was blessed with oligodontia, and for the past 12 years I have had a big porcelain bridge serving as my upper teeth. Sadly, the time has come to have it replaced.

Even after my insurance pays, I'm left with about $6500 expense of my own. I didn't realize it until today, but I my insurance has a $1500/year maximum coverage. That $1000/year I've been paying in premiums over the past 6 years doesn't seem so smart now. Smiley: disappointed

I have a friend who is a loan officer at the bank. I believe I'll be giving him a call this afternoon. My dentist also offers financing. I'll just have to shop around and find the best deal. I'm not sure if I have other options, but this thing is definitely NOT ending up on my credit card.

Sweet. Upside for me is that your dentist's #1 option for financing keeps my company raking in a 25%+ APR on that $6500. If you ever have to call in and complain about it, LOL. I can pretty much guarantee you'll feel like your getting another dental procedure done.

If I go with any of his plans, I'll be going with the 18 month no interest option.

The only advantage I can think of to this whole oligodontia thing is that I've never had to deal with wisdom teeth. I have had some pretty rough experiences though.

here's hoping you're one of the 70%+ who forgets that interest accrues from date of purchase if you fail to pay it off.

I am having dentist bill hell as well. I am having a tooth pulled and replaced with an implant, and it seems to be getting more and more expensive. First, it was 2,000. Then 1,000 got added for the tooth extraction and a bone graft. Then I find out all of this only pays for the implant itself - I have to pay my regular dentist for the crown that goes on it. All for one stinking tooth.....I am missing too many back there already otherwise I would never do it.

Thats crazy. Thankfully I've never had anything worse than wisdom teeth pulled.

***** that... take the $6,500, install a jet tub in your bathroom, take some of the left-over cash, buy a good blender, and drink your food. Who needs teeth anyway when you can relax in a jet tub sipping filet mignon through a straw.

You underestimate the prestige that comes from living in the south and having the appearance of a full set of teeth.

Quit prolonging the inevitable.

The Mexican dentists offer:

Dentures: Complete uppers and lowers $240.00 to $800.00 Upper plate only: $130.00 to $400.00 Lower plate only: $130.00 to $400.00

In any event, a full upper plate would be cheaper than whatever you're contemplating.

Meh...me too..my insurance pays for any regular visits, but the work being done to make up for not having insurance previously will be about 8500 bucks. Thankfully, my income now allows this without too much financial stress. But something you might consider if not previously mentioned is interest free dental loans. Most dentists either offer it or at the very least know of it. The upside is 18 months of no interest..the downside being that after the 18 months, the rates are pretty bad. In the 18 to 16 % range.
