Woman reports spousal rape
Wife said incidents have occurred 30 times

A Fort Collins man is facing charges of raping his sleeping wife on several occasions.
The 28-year-old man, whose name is being withheld to protect the woman's identity, faces one count of sexual assault and one count of domestic violence harassment after the woman spoke with police earlier this month.
On March 11, the woman told Fort Collins police officer Jon Holsten that during the past year she has awakened about 30 times to find her husband having sex or oral sex with her, according to an arrest affidavit filed by Holsten.
The accuser said she had confronted her husband on several occasions and told him she felt like she was being raped and wanted the behavior to stop, according to the affidavit.
During a recorded phone call on March 11, the man admitted to having sex with her and taking nude photos of her while she was sleeping, the affidavit states.
Colorado law considers a person unable to give consent to sexual conduct if asleep, said Alanna Sherstad, executive director of Fort Collins-based Sexual Assault Victim Advocates.
The man is free on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.
Marriage does not automatically imply consent, Sherstad said, and sexual assault in a marriage or other long-term relationship is something many people don't think about.
"When people think about sexual assault, they think about a stranger jumping out of the bushes or a dark alley," she said. "Most sexual assaults are committed by someone (the victim) knows."
About 10 percent of sexual assaults are reported, Sherstad said, but she thinks the reporting rate for spousal sexual assaults is even lower.
Vicki Lutz, executive director of Crossroads Safehouse, said sexual violence is a common way abusers batter their victims. As many as half of all domestic violence victims have been sexually assaulted by their abusers, Lutz said, yet it's something that often goes unspoken.
"It's in the corner of a closet crime," she said.

That is pretty creepy. Not sure how I'd feel if I woke up to a woman giving me a blow-job.
Bah, who am I kidding.
