What the hell. Learning how to shine boots was a formative experience in my young adulthood.

These kids today are spoiled I tell ya.

I can't decide if the new DBU's look like **** or not yet, I think I need to someone wearing them first.

Why would you want shiny boots in battle anyway?

holy christ the price tag alone pisses me off. i paid 80 bucks for a pair of custom made jungles...most comfortable boot i have ever worn. you got these folks like me that have 2 drawers full of t-shirts & at least 8-10 sets of bdu's...wtf? at least they did not go with the star trek look (poll on squad-leader.com) those were silly. $88 for a set of the new ones, $103 for the boots, about $5 for the t-shirts. gads, i really do hope they boost the clothing allowance. we are gonna need it.

my only real concern is the use of velcro. sorry, but the entire reason for getting rid of the zipper and replacing it with buttons was to cut down on noise.

i have yet to have a zipper that is louder then velcro... hello??? stealth anyone... all gone with the use of velcro on it.

as for the look. i can not decide as the picture is not good enough to really tell.

also keep in mind every year you are given a set or 2 of BDUs and 1 set of boots, well depending on your MOS.

when i was working the flightline as a C-shopper on the F-16 we got 2 sets of BDUs and 1 pair of steal toed boots every year for free. just go see the quarter master and pick em up along with flight gloves and work gloves 1 pair ea, and 1 set of rain gear. that was pre gortex gear days though.

odds are also high that once the Army does this they will issue the first set and not charge the grunts a fee for it. heck they may even issue 2 or 3 sets of BDUs with t-shirts and 1 pair of boots.

as for the boots you just got, i always paid for my own custom boots as i hated the standard issue boots. just to darn uncomfortable and made my feet sweat like 10x as much. that and they were not water proof. my custom boots were gotex/thinsulate combined. even with the extra insulation i still did not sweat near as much as with just the base leather boots.

The no shine plastic boots have been around for a long time..but as the quote why would you want shiny boots in battle? well the army doesn't see it in that light. the army uses shining boot's sort of as a discipline tatic. and probably other reasons i don't know about. plus if you have ever wore a BDU, un-shined boots just make you look dumb. Now im only 16 so don't think im in the army or anything but i do know of these things due to the fact i like wearing BDU's while i hit people with paintballs and make em stare down the barrel of my paintball gun. and out there in an open field a bdu isn't much of a camoflauge suit..it's merely letting them know im the only one wearing it on the field and if you see it you better run or you'll be marked by my favorite color..red.
