Are the forums a police state now?Follow

Ok Kids, time to move on. I think we actually banned Thundra once for trashing an admin. I'll be a lawyer for a minute. Accusing another person of commiting a crime in a public forum is libel. While we allow a lot of things here, breaking laws is not one of them. Take it somewhere else please.

Nothing wrong with your statement above, however...

I respect the right that you have to make people Admins of your site, however perchance it is time to put a "leash" on one of your newer ones.

comments that are made in the forum such as '...if you could only see the IP Addresses..." or vague comments as to who someones sock puppet is, or even behavior such as was hinted at prior to being an Admin may have an admins integrity a bit wilted there Allakhazam. Have you noticed that some admins "kharma" is consistently at 5.00, did you believe it is because all admins are liked so highly or because they have the "ability" to keep it that way. Perhaps someone's "perfect persona" is maintained not only by there helpfulness, but who wants to pick on the guy that will hack your computer if you **** him off. And who outwardly states he hates sock puppets. Nice police man you have there.

I don't give a damn. Editing sopmeones post because it was a personal attack is ********* He got his feelings hurt, so what. If he's man enough to put the drawing up in the Asylum, he better be man enough to take the criticism, otherwise he should have stayed in OOT.

Damn I can't believe I'm defending Smash, but it is the right thing to do.

I think the man is more full of **** than a port-a-potty at a cinco de mayo parade, but I agree. Nothing Smash said was edit worthy. Kao needs to grow up and learn to read the forum headers just like everyone else.

Kao - If you don't like it, stay in OOT. They'd be happy to kiss your ***.

/agree.

One time I was pissed at haggan or whatever his name is for nuking one of my posts. so i ******* and he got rid of that one too. i think some admins take it upon their behalf to police a bit. But nothing really deserves an edit in the Asylum, except for that legal mumbo jumbo. SOME things DO deserve rate downs, like me calling the flatulant an asshat, just because he IS one, is a prick, only gives us flatulance, DOES rate me down for it, and blah blah blah.

all things aside, beautiful kid you have moebius

be pissed, but don't expect things to change cause of it.

I applaud an attempt to start cleaning up attacks aimed towards our awesome admins. However, I'd like proof that all of the insults I've directed towards your ******* have been edited for content.

As I've said before, and will continue to say:

You're all ****.

Bongo has sex with apes.

Danalog looks like that crazy haired Painter from public access television after months of being out of the job.

Darkflame is a *****.

All of that is ok as long as I don't mention Kao?

You realize this invalidates anything you say, right?

Oh and Kao, I hope you do realize it was a joke- a prod, a poke. If anyone truly thought that of you, you'd be in jail by now. We might all be ********, but we're wonderfully efficient. And if it's even crossing your mind to take that as a threat, realize that it's not a threat any more than locking a thread is:a subtle insinuation that you better shut up--or else.

Smash has been accused of impersonating a federal official, and that's a crime too. Totem's pretending to be a black man, which I'm sure is a crime against humanity, as well as Katie, who's on her second marriage before having reached her mid-twenties, which is a crime against good taste. We have all exposed our soft underbelly, and it's the board duty to poke us in it. I know you're an admin now, but you knew the drill long before you got elevated. Try to live by the OOoT golden rule, the one that is the hardest for us to stick to, but what should be the only law here: Don't dish it if you can't take it.

OOoT: Original OOT. I hate that goddamned new name. BTW admins, consider re-wording the disclaimer to keep yourself free of liability. That would at least be proactive.

I didn't see it as that abusive. It's one thing to speak your mind, and say what you want to say, and this board has been very good at allowing that. However, namecalling and personal attacks for no reason at all is a bit over the top, and I can understand the admins wanting to clamp down on that. Attacking an admin for no apparent reason is just silly on any forum...

This is supposed to be a "no holds barred" discussion forum. Emphasis on the "discussion". To me that means that you can discuss any topic you want, and take any position you want in that topic, without fear that your words will be removed purely because your position is unpopular. It does not mean that you are free to post a string of meaningless and unwarranted profanity, or constantly barrage a poster with implications about his person or character.

I've always held the opinion that if you have to resort to personal attacks, you've just conceeded the argument. Unfortunately, many don't seem to see it that way. Smash in particular tends to believe that belittling people is the best way to make his point. I'm not sure how effective that is, but it can be very annoying. Honestly folks, how exactly do you go into a thread asking for critique on a drawing to calling the artist a pediphile? I read the thread, and there was nothing in it to lead to that. It was not a joke. It was not something that fit with the topic. Smash just randomly labeled Kao a pediphile because he thought it would be funny (and presumably would make him look bigger and badder I suppose).

Sure. It's the Asylum, but that's still no excuse. There's a fine line between protecting a posters right to say what he wants to say, and allowing him to say anything he wants. Smash's ability to respond to that thread was not curtailed. He could have said anything he wanted about the drawing and it would not have been edited. Instead, he decided to randomly go off making unwarranted, personal attacks. IMO, that's the sort of thing that prevents discussion rather then encourages it. And isn't the poin of the Asylum to encourage *any* kind of discussion?

Dunno. I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

No one here is saying Smash is the innocent by-stander or guiltless, the fact is the "punishment" or the editing of the post could have been handled differently. Recall the post a few days ago that turned into the spanking thread. Same thing, over reaction by the authority figure. The foolish name calling Smash did should have been handled differently. Where's the soap?

I think the subtle point everyone's missing is that the name calling came after the edit.

Eh? I was reading it while it went on. While I missed the first post by you, I caught everything else:

Thread is going, people are commenting on Kao's drawing.

An edited post by you appears. Edited first by Kao, then by you, then by Kao again to remove your edited line where you cuss him out for editing.

Joph posts about censorhip.

You chime in about how crappy it is that you got edited.

Kao posts and says that he edited it because he didn't appreciate you calling him a pediphile. Then said the "second one" was to tweak you (over the cursing presumably).

Um... That's 4 posts, right in a row? Am I missing something? It sure as heck looked to me like you called him a pediphile, he edited it out, you then re-edited it to swear at him about it, then he edited your swear out.

Did it happen differently? If so, which post was edited first? The first one I see is the one where Kao claims you called him a pediphile. Was there one before that?

So Kao acted immaturely in response to immaturity and he's an "authority figure" so you're going to defend what? That because he was insulted he has the right to act just as ignorant? Sheesh, Gbaji get off the white horse and get your feet dirty.

Smash was aboviously doing it in jest - Very obviously. It was never a serious thing, just a jab at Kaolin, as is on par with the asylum. Lots of worse things have been said to other people, and nothing had been done. Yet when the comment is directed towards an admin, bad things happen.

Kao, I've never much thought of you as a bad guy, but what you did reminds me of a child's attempt to be in control. Your actions are on par with that of an immature 14 year old, given some measure of power in a public place.

I'm not a very active poster on here, I just come in every now and then and make some posts... But as things are, I'm tempted to stop altogether if things continue on this way.

Edit: Fixed it, Moe

Not so much an "authority figure" as he "works here". He and the other admins provide a service for the rest of us. Just because we are free to slam eachother as much as we want, does not mean it's ok for us to slam them.

Honestly, I tend to agree that the post should not have been edited. However, that was Kao's decision to make. Smash should have just accepted that he crossed the line slaming an admin and been done with it. Ultimately, they do run the site. If the worse they do is edit a post when you make derogatory remarks towards them, then count yourself lucky. You (and I) are guests here. We should be acting like it towards those who run the forum.

That's just common courtesy. Maybe it's less then common nowaday's but I still believe in it.

Yes, we've all said stupid and immature things, but saying immature things is different then going out and editing someones post. Not many people here can even do it.

And yes, I play FFXI. You know that.

I joked that the pictures he had of some fat kids face being morphed on to various (clothed) bodies might viloate some kiddie **** laws. That post is left untouched, so it couldn't have been too offenseive.

He posted that he was using them to demostrate how easy it is to photoshop someones head onto someone elses body.

Is posted litterally the following:

"Nah, I'm going with the kiddie **** thing!"

Then I went to sleep. I didn't even notice that it had been edited untill tonight.

So, yes, it happened diffrently.

Gbaji - If we (that is collectively as a large group) just simply stop posting here tomorrow Allakhazam will start losing money. Not solely from Premium Memberships, but also from dropping post counts. As a store owner I put up with a lot of **** from my customers, and granted the one thing I won't put up with is abuse of myself or my employees. However, the other I will not put up with is my employees getting sarcastic with my customers or providing inferior service or service that can be percieved as inferior. IMO Kao provided inferior service by not letting Allakhazam handle the situation. Just because an employee has the keys to the store doesn't mean he/she can arbitrarily make the rules and **** off long time customers. So pull your head of Alla's *** and look at it from a customer service perspective. Of course Alla can run his site any way he pleases, even giving Kao free reign with the god rights.
