And you thought that Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome was stupid...

'Ladies night' is sexist

Quote:
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- The state's top civil rights official has ruled that taverns cannot offer discounts to women on "ladies nights," agreeing with a man who claimed such gender-based promotions discriminated against men.

David R. Gillespie said it was not fair for women to get into the Coastline nightclub for free and receive discounted drinks while men paid a $5 cover charge and full price for drinks.

In his ruling Tuesday, J. Frank Vespa-Papaleo, director of the state Division on Civil Rights, rejected arguments by the nightclub that ladies nights were a legitimate promotion. Commercial interests do not override the "important social policy objective of eradicating discrimination," he ruled.

The ruling specifically addressed the weekly ladies nights at the Coastline in Cherry Hill, but it carries the force of a court decision and applies statewide. Vespa-Papaleo said state officials would write formal rules after a public hearing.

The restaurant's attorney, Colleen Ready, did not immediately return a telephone message left Wednesday by The Associated Press.

Courts in other states have issued divergent opinions on such promotions.

Judges in Pennsylvania and Iowa have said similar events are illegal, but courts in Illinois and Washington state have said that ladies nights are permissible because they do not discriminate against men but rather encourage women to attend.

When I was in high school I was in a service club called the "Keywanettes", which was the girl or "ettes" version of the male Key Club. Some asshat "dreamboat" (chosen male members) said that the name was sexist and made such a big stink about it that in my third year, they forced us to change our name. The Keywanettes no longer exist, they're now called the "Kiwins", which we all had to vote on from this list of stupid replacement names.

Lets make everything equal till we ruin it!!!!

I like that idea, bhod. In fact, starting now, EVERYTHING should be equal. Why should some shmuck have a better job than me just because he is "smarter" or "more ambitious"? And why should somebody else get payed more just because they are higher on the "corporate ladder"?

Well, I mean how serious is this really...do any of you really plan on checking the "night life" out in Trenton, New Jersey...or anywhere in New Jersey for that matter.

What we need to do is worry about containing this plague!

And killing that gay guy that started it all.

Ya know what Tape, since I actually care about whether or not I get banned from here, I'm simply going to put my sentiments like this:

I figured I would take out the vulgarity since the situation was passed.

Why does some random jackass who decides to hold the court to women's own "Equal Rights" bullshit have to be that gay guy.

I know the whole issue of using gay as derogitory slang is a dead horse issue, but goddamned...this is shit we're trying to fight against...

As a side note, I'm not saying Equal Rights are bullshit by any means, just that stupid shit like this is to be expected.

Oh I get you.

Hmmm...well I would suspect that anyone who is against having a "Ladies Night" which would cause more women to show up at a bar...more women drinking, and therefore a much better chance of guys in that bar to "hook up" with said women...would seem to, as Twiztid so eloquently put it 'Bat for the pink team' I think it was.

If he is gay or not, the idea sucks and I'm against it and think its retarded!

Adult swim is discriminatory to kids! Those ******* lifeguard *****!!!

Yeah, it very well may suck, but hey... At least someone had the balls to say "What's good for the goose, is good for the gander." Tree-huggin' hippy women want to ***** about this is sexist, and that is sexist. 'Bout time some dude said, "Hey, by your same definitions, 'Lady's Night' is sexist!" More power to 'em.

OF course they're discriminatory.

If it was "White night" would we even be having this discussion?

Imma cause a ruckus but there is difference between encouraging a gender to come to bar than there is to encourage a particular ethnic group or colour.

Its a simple marketing technique, get ladies in the bar, if you have the ladies the men will follow as usual. Which leads to more business in both male and females. Its not like they are saying we only want ladies business and you guys can get out right now.

You could have guys nite but it would only scare ladies off probably and sausage fest as another put it would not be good for business.

When i think discrimination i think not getting paid as much for a job because of sex, equating women to physical appearance, judging people on colour, denying people basic human rights because they are different. Hiring a white person over black because you are uncomfortable, making people sit at back of bus etc.

Not giving ladies drinks at lower cost in order to drum up business. If that is only discrimination you have in your life to ***** about then you have things slack and should be using your time and energy to help those worse off than you rather than wasting it on something pointless and trivial as this.

I wont fall victim to generalizations and use "white nite" as example but how about Irish. Lets say i own an Irish Pub, its Saint Paddies and i have special running saying that anyone that is decked out in Green and Shamrocks gets in free with no cover charge or gets 25cents off a drink. Is this discriminating against non christians and people that dont celebrate paddies or is it just trying to drum up business and encourage a certain atmosphere and have a good time on paddies.

Now if i made people that werent dressed up in Green and shamrocks pay MORE for drinks that would be discrimination.

The Ladies night does make good business sense, but it still is discrimination. But instead of sueing, since I believe any business should be able to discriminate on its cliental, they should of instead told the club their beliefs and not returned. Then told their friends and their friends tell friends and so on. If the business starts to lose sales they will reconsider their policy, if there is no noticable decline in sales then the majority dont mind the policy.

It was just a way to get women to drink more, thereby becoming more vulnerable and less discriminating. So suing to do away with it seems to be a matter of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face - if the man in question were indeed heterosexual.

PJ -
I doubt that "gay" was being used in a derogatory way there, but I assure you that in my next several lines, it will not be...

The pole-smoking **** jiz-bag who filed that suit is obviously a hard-core flaming *****. No heterosexual male would be even slightly annoyed that women were being encouraged to frequent, at a regularly scheduled day, an establishment where the remotest of possibilities exist that he might get one of said women drunk enough to accompany him to the parking lot for a hummer. I have no problem with homos. I screwed chubby women, they ***** men. Neither one of us can be too proud of our particular proclivities, eh? But when those products of un-natural rectal enlargement decide to mess with the straight man's chance at some strange, it's over. Send them all to an island so I won't lose ladies' night.

See? I didn't use gay as a derogatory term. :)
