My new job is at Sourcefire, a startup Network Security company in Columbia, Maryland. The founder is the guy who created SNORT. I'm doing a lot of reading to get further immersed in the Network Security arena.

Apparently, the founder, Martin Roesch, has quite a popular following in the open source community. I was just curious - are any of you tech-types are familiar with SNORT and/or Sourcefire?

My tech writer job, after 2 weeks, has been pretty cool so far. There are some other transplanted Californians (I'm really a Marylander, but I've lived in California off and on for only about 13 years (3 years in San Diego and most recently 9 years in San Francisco) but it's nice to get to know some others from the west coast here.

Well welcome back to MD.

I also live in MD, and do network security for 4 pretty good size law firms in down town Baltimore.

I have snort running at every site, its a great peace of software once you figure it all out :o)
