This post will likely be lost on some of you, but there are a few who might appreciate it. I have been rekindling my love for foreign movies lately and I thought I'd share a short list of my favs, in case anyone here wanted to pick up something a little different from the video store next time.

Oh, and if you like "Dude, Where's My Car?"...this list is probably not for you. Smiley: wink2

Amores Perros (Mexican) - Gritty, little story about dog fighting and back stabbing and relationships gone mad! Mad, I tell you!

Beijing Bicycle (Chinese) - Sad tale of a bike delivery boy in Beijing, who gets his bike stolen, tracks down the thief and basically has his life turned upside down by that *******.

Malèna (Italian) - Story of a young wife in a small Sicilian village that is scorned by the townsfolk, for being too beautiful, and the young boy who falls in love with her. Stars the ultra-sexy Monica Bellucci in the title role. Hot stuff, fellas!

In the Mood for Love (Chinese) - A visually stunning tale of unrealised love set in China. This is a beautiful movie.

Maelström (Canadian) - A woman runs over a man with her car, only to later fall in love with his grieving son. Horrific, and haunting.

Enjoy!! And if you know of any I should see, I'd sure like to hear about them...Smiley: grin

Nothing more exotic to a Canadian than one of those Canadian foreign films, huh? Smiley: lol

I have a copy of the Three Colors trilogy (Bleu, Blanc and Rogue) by Krzysztof Kieslowski I'm rather fond of. In French and Blanc is in Polish as well. Of course, saying you own the Trilogy is like saying you own a copy of Run, Lola, Run. Yeah, it's not in English but it's not like you have some obscure foreign arthouse film either.

I have a copy of the French Ridicule as well which is worth it just for Judith Godreché's rack. Smiley: grin

Love that trilogy...

Hmm, haven't seen that one...though the "rack" does entice me.

Yay Art Films. Liking Dude Where's My Car has nothing to do with someones apreciation of art films. Thinking it does means you're less intrested in the films and more intrested in people knowing you've seen them.

Dude, Where's My Car? Is some funny ****. I think you should give it another chance. Go see it in a double feature with Shaolin Soccer or something so you won't feel like you were wandering around with the dirty lower classes.

I'm not above the low-brow humor of some films, though not that one particularly, but I noted it before I listed the others to cease the influx of ****** FFXI comments that were sure to follow.

Turns out, one can't even list things they like or dislike on here for fear of being called out as an "art snob" of sorts. Enjoy whatever movies/books/film/art you like. All I was trying to do was offer a few suggestions that I liked. I apologize for anyone's hurt feelings over "Dude, Where's My Car?"

Perhaps Tare's point was if you only like movies like "Dude, Where's My Car" you probably wouldn't enjoy her recommended film.

I know many people who claim to love movies declare they would never watch either a black and white movie, or one with subtitles (or anything filmed prior to their birth date).

Sure you can. You just can't like or dislike anything remotely artsy Smiley: grin

You're just getting the same Smasharoo treatment Skeet got when he dared to say what books he bought.

I saw Pokémon: the Movie once. Does that count as a foreign film?

Lol. I missed that Pokémon thing. I just don't get it...

And, I fail to see how these movies are considered "artsy" - they are simply foreign laguage films. Not art house films. But whatever, if you want to stick to the comedy section of your Blockbuster, go for it.

Translation: When I say "foriegn" I mean "too challenging for your tiny white trash minds". I offer only a short list because I don't want to confuse you people unduly, I'm aware that your caste often resorts to violence when confused and I'd hate to be the cause of some wife or child beating. Also, all of the films on my list will be those with only the highest critical reviews and of international renoun.

Pfft.

Pret-a-Porte was a French comedy. Can I still watch that?

Of course, it wasn't actually funny or anything. In fact I think it sucked some of the funny out of the movies next to it.

It was ok. Didn't live up the hype, though. It wasn't as good as Dude Where's My Car?

Tare will love it, though.

The word is "The" if it begins a sentance. You see, we capitalize the first word of a sentace. Tradtionally, we also end a sentance with just the one period as opposed to three.

It's terrible how poorly educated you children are when it comes to basic capitalizationa nd punctuation. Contrary to what you've been taught, spellcheck won't do it all for you.

Perhaps you can catch the RIF bus next time it drives by your trialer park.

pssst Smash, I know you are down on spell check but considering your condition and that you are castigating someone for their spelling and grammer you may want to use it yourself. No one will know, I promise.
