Awesome book. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. If you have, what did you think?

My wife could not put it down...and that is saying alot as she is not an avid reader per se.

I have not read it yet, but I do plan to soon.

It's a made-for-TV-or-movie kind of book. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, but his books quickly became formulaic: Opening scene starts with a mysterious sequence, then it's chase, chase, chase, escape, escape, escape, final confrontation, the end.

Which book was it that he had some guy and a girl whose dad got murdered run all over the world over the course of 48 hours, escape dangers, murders, and thieves, save the Vatican, and decide they were meant for each other after he jumps out of a helicopter from 15,000 feet and suffer minor bruising?

It was all very plausible.

I'm not really talking about the plot itself, but the meanings and research etc behind it. It's easy to see why it's a controversial book. Oh, and who the hell ever saiud a book has to be plausible to be good? If you want that, read nonfiction, or biographies, or encyclopedias.

"...nonfiction..." --OutcastNecro

That is the operative word when it comes to the quasi-documentation he passes off as truth in his books. Not saying it's not entertaining, because some of it is, but his loose handling of the "research" that goes into his books is rather... cavalier.

A bunch of old theories and "theories" concerning Christ, the church, the grail and so forth written into a decent fiction story. Any true believer will turn red in anger as they read it and any Wiccan, spiritualist, feminist type will love its message.

I liked the message, *** you.

Of course anyone who takes what is written in the bible as 100% fact would easily be able to ignore all the other information out there, as well as the contradictions in the bible itself.

The book isn't intended to be nonfiction at all. The fact that some of the information, societies, beliefs, etc he uses in the book are true does't change the fact that he was writing a novel.

Tom Clancy uses quite a bit of military facts in his books, yet nobody tries to claim he is attempting to pass them off as research documentation of some sort. The difference here is people don't want to believe that the bible or christianity itself can be questioned at all.

I enjoyed the book, a decent read. I also read 2 other books by Dan Brown afterwards and didn't care much for "Digital Fortress" at all, "Angels and Demons" was all right to pass time.

Along the same vein.... theology+action+medieval flavor, give Umberto Eco a shot. He's the author of "The Name of the Rose" and "Foulcault's Pendulum".

Foulcalt's Pendulum is fantastic. Expect a need for heavy silence to absorb what he's saying though.
