The measures, announced last week by Bush, include restrictions on money transfers and family visits, increased efforts to transmit anti-Castro television to Cuba and apointment of a co-ordinator to plan a transition from socialism to capitalism.

Kill the socailists, plant American capitalists. Yea, yea, that should work!

Cuban officials have warned the measures could be a prelude to stronger U.S. attacks, possibly even an invasion

Does GWB not have enough pet projects on the go, at the moment? Having spent a fair amount of time in Cuba, I have seen that Castro is by no means an evil man. In most cases, the people of Cuba have respect for him. Given the resources available to him, and the standard of living within his boarders, I must say I have respect for him as well.

I will admit the prisons are not looked after and would be an awful place to live, but isn’t that what prison is all about.

Does the US government really think they are going to hurt a 71 year old Castro by increasing these sanctions, or just simply build hatred for his government among the Cuban people. Castro is not going to suffer, the poor people of Cuba will.

I can't believe the word invasion is being thrown around, and I also think I heard GWB’s government say that military action was not out of the questions.

Yea, we've had enough of torturing the sand-wiggers, let’s go get us some Latin meat.

Get your head out of your ***, GWB.

On a personal level, my wife is from Cuba. So now I am going to have to try and calm her down. She will probably think her parents are going to bombed, raped, and tortured soon, and why wouldn't she, so thanks again GWB... Prick!!!!

We won't invade Cuba. There's nothing worth taking there. The sad truth is that Socialism would have porabably worked just fine in Cuba if we didn't go out of our way to fuck them at every turn.

Socialism isnt the problem in cuba, the US has no problem with Canada or Great Britain being socialist along with many of its other allies and trading partners. In fact if you want to get down to the bottom line the US is becoming more and more socialist as time goes by. The problem with Cuba was it sided with the evil communist party, if they didnt except the communist banner there wouldnt of been a problem with Castro running the country the same way with a different name. But Smash you are right the US wont invade unless someone high up takes up smoking.

But Cuba has the potential to obtain WMD's, and with there proximity to the USA, can you really afford not to act?

It is working fine considering they don't have a ton of resources, and barely any industry. But the wealth of Cuba is spread out among it's people, a hell of a lot better than in the USA.

I dunno. I see North Korea as a more likely target than Cuba. That or maybe syria with all the noise they have been making diplomatically over there. Thing is, the way I see it, if we take out north korea, China is going to want Taiwan.

North Korea is completely off the table. We'll be paying them billions to stop their nuclear program.

ok, stir up as you wish, but odds are nothing more is going to happen.

odds are higher that once he dies, something will happen, but what that will be no one can say. it could be lifting of enbargo, it could be lifting of sanctions, who knows what it could/will be.

First off you need to learn that there are various levels of socialism, socialism is not the same thing as communism while comunism is socialism. But for Canada and the UK socialized medicine is a big hint they prctice socialism. The government will also step in and regulate businesses that they feel are manipulating the public. I also said the US is becoming more and more socialized. This is because for true capitalism the government practices laisez-faire, which means hands off. How many laws and requirements do all three countries have that do not support the hands off approach to businesses or does your company pay you 10 cents and hour.

Just because it is government run business i wouldnt technically call it socialism. It is but it isnt kinda hard to explain.

Just used to americans having a warped view of how stuff works up in canada. They read something out of a book and think it is truth.

Such as technically Queen Elizabeth is still our queen and every bill or piece of legislation that is passed is required to be approved and signed by Queens representative the Governor General. Now this is just formality and governor general and queen have absolutely no sway at all and just rubber stamp stuff for appearance and they have ZERO say on anything but i was talking with american the other day who felt that Canada was not a democracy because Queen was involved.

So technically you could call us a socialist Monarchy but in the end your just missing the point of whats really going on :P

As I said there are various degrees of socialism, I never said it was the same level as communism, but it is socialist. I understand how the Canadian government works I lived there for most of my life, but for economics I feel it falls under socialism. Canada hasnt been a barter economy since the fur trade days, it isnt agrarian since not everyone farms for their living, no fuedal system in work there either, and while Canada does operate under some capitalist ideals the government has rules and regulations in place that keep the economy from operating in the manner that a true capitalist economy works.
