I'm Getting OldFollow

I tried watching the 'Berg Beheading Video' a couple days ago. I couldn't finish it. I got maybe 40 or 50% of the way through and simply couldn't stomach any more.

That's the first time I've ever had that problem (if you could call it a 'problem'). I can remember the days when I'd watch Faces of Death with friends and laugh hysterically. I can remember falling into a trance-like state of amusement watching people mutilate themselves in Shocking Asia.

But I can't watch the 'Berg Video'. I even tried a second time; didn't even get as far as I did on my first attempt.

It's not the visuals that prevent me, I think it's the audio. Listening to a man gurgle and gag on the blood percolating in his own exposed throat whilst fully conscious... ugh. I just can't.

I used to laugh at how squeemish the adults were, and I suppose I held what I perceived as their 'weakness' in contempt. I don't know whether to feel ashamed at the disregard I had for human life as a child, or try and rekindle the flame of indifference.

There's no point, or moral, to this post, which I suppose makes for an apt analogy to what's going on in Iraq.

Well T, here's my take. Just FYI, in my old age, I catch myself crying at a lot of things.

I think it was a poorly done home movie. I mean if you want to instill fear in American's, damn, at least do a good job. There was hardly any blood, and no spewing at all. I think the noises you heard were actually the goobers in black. Come to think of it, I couldn't understand any of the jibberish and the moans sounded similar in tone. The poor man didn't wince, well if you could have even seen that due to the poor quality. His body didn't exhibit any tell tale death signs at all. No jerking, no last breathe type things at all.

I may be grasping at straws from thin air, but I think this was more a staged act by terrorists. I believe the man was dead for several weeks now and this occured soon after his death.

I have seen it a couple times, and I still think, even before critics commented, that the guy was dead beforehand.

I would also like to add that my heart goes out to his family, as I did try to think what that would be like to see my son treated that way, whether dead or alive.

I am still a bit torn on where to place thoughts though. Will come back later if I am still awake. :)

It could be fake, I suppose. As I said, it wasn't the visuals that freaked me out- it was more psychological.

By the way, thank you for cleaning up my spam-fest.

P.S. Wanna have sex?

I think when you're younger empathy sometimes reads as weakness, like identifying with someone else would interfere in some way with your personality development instead of enhancing it. The feeling of invincibility is actually one of the characteristics of psychological teen-dom. Funny that it comes hard on the heels of logical reasoning.

Really? I haven't gotten to that point yet. Then again, I always was a bit of a late bloomer. I didn't sprout breasts until I was a 40 year old man.

On a more serious note, I can appreciate the false sense of invincibility we have as teenagers. It's an almost endearing trait, really. I guess I have more patience for stupidity than I do for antipathy.

Heh.. my mom called me the other day to ask if I'd viewed the video. When I told her I hadn't, she thanked me profusely for not wanting to watch it. Heh... moms.

Ha! Your mom still thinks you're an innocent, Jo! Nothing like a pair of rose colored glasses, eh? Well, God bless her and every other mom who thinks their own hellish progeny are sweet little angels.

I suppose my pre Certified Forensic Pathology schooling, makes that type of stuff a little less "gross" for me. I was picking apart the video and saying, no that's just not how it would really look.

After my second baby, my body has changed and I can't take strong smells. That sort of puts a damper on what types of jobs I am able to do. Nix's CFP for sure. So for those last couple of college hours I need, hrmm programming. That way I can bug Dana daily. :P

I never bothered watching it. Someone sent me a video clip about 6 months ago of someone cutting some dudes head off with a big knife. I didn't even know what it was till I started watching it. I kept having flash-backs for about a month afterwards, I'd be sitting there doing nothing in particular and it would suddenly pop in my head.

After that, I didn't see the need to watch this one.

Or he was just sedated. What I do know is that there's an edit between when they grab him by the head and pull him to the floor and when they start cutting.

You can easily discern the edit because the timer on the heads up from the video camera changes from 2:44:03 to 13:44:04. Someone forgot to switch from 24 hour time back to 12 hour time when they edited it.

To make a long story short, I don't take any responsibility for anything I post here. It's not news, it's not truth, it's not serious. It's parody. It's satire. It's bitter. It's angsty. Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.
